Just for fun I put a Phat Ferrari on my Yokomo yrx12, made no setup changes aside from a bigger foam bumper and longer body posts and I put in an older 13.5 in place of my usual Motiv 17.5. Results - the car still drove really well, it was actually fun on the straightaway (something that 17.5s are not), everybody in the house remarked about how cool the thing looked, and I ran lap times about the same as I typically do with my primary dialed in 17.5 car. Verdicts - 1/12th GT racing is awesome ....... and it’s even awesomer with 13.5 rip.

Its interesting how the on-road guys in Europe (and also Asia) always tend to run faster motors in their “stock” classes than we run in the US. Probably goes a long way towards explaining why Americans rarely show well when they race against the Euros or the Asians. IMO it’s just odd that we Americans keep mandating painfully slow motors for most all of our on road classes and then so many guys spend plenty in the endless hunt for the fastest of the slow motor offerings. IMO the 17.5 1/12th scale cars are already too slow because they just don’t require of the driver any throttle finesse. Adding a 13.5 and a GT body adds back the driver’s skill and some of the thrill that’s been missing from 1/12th scale for far too long. Besides that, the GT bodies just look SO cool.

We don't care what they are running in Europe. This is they way we set -up this class in Florida. It was very popular at the Birds this year. We continually are getting racers that have quit racing and now coming back to race this class. You can have the fastest motor and still not win. Setup and driving make the difference always has. Most of us use the same motor(Trinity) but driving and set-up and the crowd you drive with make the difference! You want to race 17.5 or 13.5 that's not what we race. We also race on WGT spec tires either white- blue purple or green stripe - as long as they are the same compound as the WGT compound.
It is a fun class to race and get racers back into the 1/12th class which is way cheaper to run than TC.

I couldn't agree more !! It's only a drivers class if a car can overshoot the corner. Off-road is popular because of the driver factor. After reading this the problem seems to be getting approval from the Florida president so those of us in the other 49 States can have fun.

My meds are just fine. Marcos at your track maybe wide open for you - not everywhere- We'll see in two weeks. 1/12th in the past has died quickly after the birds around Florida. With this class it's been growing for several years. When someone make a 3 1/2 hour trip one way to our track to race this class that a good answer.. And another comes from Europe and races TC (and very good driver) shows up with an older crc chassis and puts 2 laps on the field(and our best drivers) . He'll be back real soon for several months. Ya'll can race what you want but our class is GT12racing USA.

It depends on what "drives" the class... In Europe they have more real scale racing to relate the cars to that we don't have, so "everyone" wants to participate. Where as what I have noticed here in Florida is that classes like GT12 and F1 have been lead by the older/weekender crowd that doesn't want to deal with the flavor of the week motors and destroying $100 batteries just to go fast, they gravitate towards a slower motor.

It's only a matter of time before we destroy GT12. It looks like a ton of fun and its growing... but I think there should be a 13.5 version of it. Problem is we need to get rid of 1 of the 5 TC classes that already exist to add another one. :-)

I've never been a weekend racer but I'm old as you know (Punk). Seen it all with every class. TC started out and now look every motor has a class (25.5-21.5-17.5-13.5 +). Same with every class. We raced 1/12th with GT body before most you your were born in the State series.- It died after 2-3 years. F1 - this is the 3rd or 4th time it's been reintroduced. This time it's taken off. Now we have he 1/12th class growing (here in Florida) with the GT12 Racing USA class. Marcos you just got into this class and it's been how many years?
What has always been the down fall of R/C racing is making a body that looks like a slot car body. GT12 Racing USA allows and GT body made {old and new). they both work good- I've tried many. Hopefully ya'll will get as old as I am and still enjoy racing RC's.

yes i got in the class and very quickly got bored with it, like Leon said i also would like to see it as a 13.5 version maybe the 21.5 could be the over 60 class with slow reflex and poor driving skills,
