Here's an observation: The new Boss motor comes with a vented endbell on the pinion side only, the sensor side has the same non-vented endbell as the original. However, the rules on the USVTA site state that the Novak "#5925 Ballistic 540 Vented Endbells and Bearing Racing Upgrade Kit" is a legal modification. So to get vented endbells on both ends of the Boss motor you can install the #5925 kit (well part of it). Or you could just use the #S5928 Vulcan/Ballistic Vented Back Endbell since it is the same part as the one in the upgrade kit

I will just cut it. I'm gonna use a hole punch to punch out a hole on the round side of the vent hole and then use scissors to cut the sides out. Is it really that cost effective for novak to not include a punched insulator? $25 is a lot not not include something that may cost them a few pennies if that..

Anyway, if you are that worried about airflow you'll need to install the vented back endbell also, and that's more than a few pennies.

That's right, the upgrade kit comes with both vented endbells. The Boss motor, however, comes only with the one on the pinion side. The point of my post (#20) was since the upgrade kit is legal, some will want to install the vented back endbell on their new Boss 25.5 motors.

You don't need a Boss motor. The rotor and stator are the same as the Ballistic. The only advantage to the Boss is it possibly running cooler due to the vents. Anyone that thinks they need the additional vents in the back endbell to be competitive is fooling themselves. That being said, many will use it anyway just because it looks cool
