According to the official rules on the Novak site, this motor is listed as legal. I didn't feel like dishing out another $95 for a new motor since I already have three 25.5's so I bought the end bell's in a kit. After installing them, I realized that the front vented end bell was completely useless since the insulator completely blocks all the holes. Ive tried to compare to the pics of the new BOSS motor online and it seems that the BOSS motor has a diff type of insulator where there are cut outs in the insulator so as to not block the flow of air. IDK why one wasn't included in the kit since that would be fairly important. I feel like an idiot paying $25 for just a rear vented end bell considering the front is completely blocked off. Want to hear what novak has to say about this..

I guess they are just living up to the second line of your sig, they got all Wu on you.

I'm personally not too concerned about this new motor. When it's time for a new one I'll grab this (if deemed legal) but for now my Ballistic is doing just fine.

The Boss became USVTA legal on 7/9/2013. Check the updated rules on the USVTA website. Here is the announcement RobK made 7/10/13. On the fish paper blocking the end bell, I have an original set of cut end bells that I was using on a 17.5 in Dirt Oval and I trimmed the fish paper for better cooling. Also, even if you don't trim the fish paper, there is still some clearance to get air in the motor. Here is a good photo of the motor and it shows cut fish paper. I will be swapping the end bells on my VTA motor for the cut end bells since this is now allowed by the rules.

I have two VTA cars and one motor is a backup.

Regarding the insulator, I want to cut out the slots so that the vents do what they were cut out to do but I don't want to void the legality of the motor for VTA. I just don't think it was fully thought out before released. Here are some pics of the motor and how the insulator restricts the air flow. The back is wide open, as it should be. I really think that this can help a lot to improve the airflow and thus keep the temps down but that insulator needs to be modified to allow for the air to flow.

Yo I don't know why he has three motors but I have two motor because I tend to over gear at times and having MELTED THE SOLDER OFF OF MY 7.5 STATOR due to a gearing "miscalculation", I like to have an extra motor when I do something stupid. And my first USVTA Ballistic 25.5 was that very retired 7.5 Ballistic with a new 25.5 stator and a new 12.3 rotor. This 1st motor is also my "DORK" motor because the ceramic bearings actually survived the meltdown

Go to the Novak Ballistic Boss VTA Edition 25.5 webpage and click on the large photo. It clearly shows that the fish paper is trimmed to clear the hole. If you are using the cut end bells, you can trim the fish paper to match as this mimics the Boss fish paper and should be legal. This is what I did when I got my cut end bells (trimmed the fish paper).

Now the next obvious question is, how do I get the black aluminum ring with the VTA BOSS sticker on it.. I like that new ring and the sticker looks.... well... like a BOSS!

I have more then three motors, they just aren't all 25.5.. Ill take my opportunity to pickup more assuming the funds and wife allow for it..
This doesn't even include what's in my four cars... Its a sick addiction..
