I am looking at on road kit touring/drift cars and have narrowed it down to the Tamiya TA05 v.2 and TA06.

I plan on mainly drifting with maybe a little GT2 racing.
I would like to spend no more than around $350 buying a kit and electronics.

Which is better? Do you know where I can find it cheapest? I don't car ewhat the body is.

If you ever want to race, & want a tamiya , get a TA05, or even a TB03.

TA06 is an over-engineered mess, designed by someone who doesnt race or drift RC.

For you I would go for the TA06 chassis to meet your needs. The TA06 is a very capable GT racer that has a rapidly growing following by the drift crowd. Some say the balanced chassis (center battery) makes it a better drifter over even the front motor drift cars. The other key feature is the rear gearbox gets immediate direct power to the rear wheels (compared to the belt driven front) so it will help initiate a drift easier the drift crowd claims. The car has a rapidly growing aftermarket support with everything from carbon fiber chassis options, countersteer mods and steering upgrades for big steering angles drifting requires.

I have both TA05 ver 2 and TA06 pro. If going racing i would go for the ta05 ver 2. Handles quite well but the main thing is that the drivetrain is sooo free compared to the TA06. TA06 is nicely balanced and probs alittle better handling than the ta05 with the center battery but can deffo see the speed difference in that rear gearbox drag, even my old ta04 was quicker in a straight line than ta06 (stock vs stock)

Just my opinion

Cant tell you much at drifting as i dont drift with them cars atm

If i was at the point of choosing a car between a TA05 ver.II and a TA06PRO and knowing what i know now i would definately choose the TA06PRO over any TA05 version.
I've been racing the TA06PRO from the beginning they have been released and the chassis is so well balanced and provides more grip then any TA05 version.
Another benefit the TA06PRO chassis has is that it can take those square hardcase lipo batteries.
And for example last race i was able to finish 5 seconds (at the end of the heat) behind the fastest (GT1) carbon chassis touring car driver with a tamiya 12T sensorless brushless motor while i was only driving in the GT2 class with a 16T sensorless brushless motor.
This just to point out that this chassis has a lot of potential if it has the right set-up.
TA06PRO is definately my choice of car.

have owned and driven the TA05, TA05v2, and TA06...

The TA05s are easy to set up and get up to speed... the drive train is free and seems to love long flowing tracks.

Been driving a TA06 for a year and a half now, and the kit seems to dart out of corners quicker than its TA05 brother... can't say the kit suffers on top end speed as the kit seems to keep up (in my class there are 2 TA05v2's and 1 TB03, and we all run 12t sensorless tamiya motor/esc + LiFe batts).

The TA06 is a heavy dog though... much heavier than a TA05v2.

With the right parts and equipment you can easily save a lot of weight, mine weight less then 1350grams race ready and i'm still able to save some weight.
Wheels/tires also play a weightsaving roll.

i run the car in Tamiya-sanctioned races only... kits has all the carbon-reinforced plastic and CF hopups, Ti or Alum screws. I even switched to a front spool and rear ball diff to shave off some weight and it still feels heavier than a fully-decked-out TA05.

don't get me wrong, i still love the TA06 and will drive it over a TA05.

I'm also driving the TA06 at the tamiyacup races here in belgium and my car is the lightest of them all.
Also the best performanced car on the track

for north american TCS (tamiya championship series) since the ta06 came out i have never seen one in the a-main or even the b-main.

I think the thread is getting skewed for the OP intention. Guys this is not a debate about how many of each chassis has a championship or how many were in the A or F Main last week. This is about the question the thread starter originally asked. Which should he buy for his use, not which has the best racing finish history.

He is not primarily a racer and will mainly be drifting with a little racing on the side. Keep that in mind.
