Default Traxxas 4tec - OK for USVTA ?

I didn't find any info on this in searching the forums...

I have two old Traxxas electric 4tecs that we used to use for promotional public racing at BMW trade shows that we sponsored (our sponsored event, for the attendees, was RC racing).

I am thinking that I could use one of these as a "trainer" for learning to drive and all that ..... prior to purchasing a competitive chassis.

Does anyone know if the USVTA spec hardware will work on these chassis? I guess the only questionable issue would be the spec wheels. Motor and ESC are non-issue, of course.

Other thoughts?

Here's an article from the BMW club magazine, after our first event, back in '94. We were using the Tamiya 4wd M3 back then .... until they were just fully worn out.

Why not? If the wheels mount on a 12 mm hex and you can get a LiPo to fit into the battery holder, go for it. If you fit it with the right electronics up front, you can always transfer those to a better chassis later if it doesn't work out. The 4-Tec never was a very good car. It's the same basic layout of the HPI Pro 2 and Sprint 2 Sport. Parts might be hard to come by but if you're crafty, you could always try and fit parts from other cars. If a rectangular "brick" LiPo doesn't fit, there are some LiPos usually up to about 4400 mAh that have the same shape as a NiMH/NiCD stick pack. That would be the only "poor" investment, because on most any other chassis, you would want to run a 5000 mAh 2S brick if only for the extra ballast.

Also, you'll get more responses and opinions if you post this question in the VTA forum here...
