Use a very light oil, and you don't need to fill it up. On the rear the oil is really just to lube the gears, not for any viscous differential coupling. I've used 1K, 40W shock oil, and just a little film of synthetic, real-engine break-in lube. They all work fine.

I found the opposite to be true. I used to run a very light 500 weight oil. I have gradually moved up to now 3k weight and the car just kept getting better. As I moved up the car didn't rotate as easily as before, but making small roll center changes and rear toe changes compensated. Doing these things together the car just became easier to drive hard and get better lap times.

OK, I've got to brag a little. Our club, the Hoosier RC Racers helped put on an event here in Indianapolis called "Race an Andretti" with Andretti Autosport and HHGregg. We built a one day on-road track for the Andretti drivers to use. The drivers were Marco Andretti, Carlos Munoz and Ryan Hunter-Reay.

To get them started, we let them run our VTA cars. Crispy's got messed up by Marco (Maybe it was Carlos? I don't remember). Ed's survived the racing. Ryan Hunter-Reay (past Indy winner!) drove my TC3 with an HPI 66 Mustang body on it. He did great! Apparently, he's run RC cars before. I thought he was going to leave there with it. We had a good time, and it didn't take long for them to drop their "cool" and just be laughing RC guys.

So no more Novak so now what?

Novak Electronics started in 1978, in true American dream fashion, right in Bob's living room with is family. From those humble beginnings building servos for the pylon airplane racers at the National level, Novak moved into designing and manufacturing electronic speed controls for radio controlled cars. Novak speed controls dominated the National and World racing scene through the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Sensor based brush-less motors and speed controls changed the face of racing once again, and Novak is proud have been on the front lines of the new tech.

Through the years, we have met countless wonderful RC enthusiasts, lovers of the hobby, passionate racers, and down right good people. Novak has been a mainstay brand of the RC community for decades, and we owe much of that to the hobbyists we have been fortunate enough to meet and work with.

It is with a very heavy heart that we make the following announcement. Today marks the final day of Novak R/C.

It has been a wonderful 38 years. We have made more friends and had more fun doing what we love then we ever thought possible. The decision to close our family business did not come easy. Novak was driven by a good hobby experience. Making products that made your RC life easier, in the United States of America. We manufactured our own product under our own roof for nearly 4 decades. We thank you all for being part of this awesome ride. We leave proud of our brand, we leave proud of our products, we leave proud of our staff, and we leave proud of all the friends and family we have in this wonderful hobby world.

Thanks everyone!

Hopefully only 1 motor is picked and it isn't thrown open to motor wars.
