PARTS PARTS PARTS can you get them fairly easy. I found shumaucher aren't well supported anywhere near me so I would say Yokomo...that And I already own a Yokomo SD. If you are tring to find out which is best Shaft or Belt then do a search on the terms and see what comes up. It is the endless debate.

Part support is the main issue when choosing a new car.
For belt versus shaft, do a search, and you'll find at least 10 threads about this matter.
For the two cars mentioned, please check out schumacher corner and the Yok thread.

I have one of each and have come up with a couple of pros and cons.
Belt
if well taken care of will be problem free
pebbles can get stuck in belts and ruin pulleys
a snapped belt means your race is over
just put it on the track and rip
Shaft
very smooth drive train but won't win you anything
sealed diff cases mean less maintainence
a stripped bevel gear means your car doesn't run as well but u can still finish the race
a little care with acceleration as torque steer may/or may not unsettle your car during cornering

also a couple posts ago, shaft won't win you anything...well except maybe the nation title, the Japan national title just a few shafts that have one....YES the TRF is one bad belt driven car..I still like the Yokomo SD better....It handles how I life to drive, I also have the Yokomo Mini TC and it is a belt and it is as smooth as butter, but I miss teh on throttle power I get from the SD.
Just my two pennies.

factory xray, by far the best kit i have ever built and by the looks of my basement i have built a few. both shaft and belts have pros and cons but imo the new xray is bullet proof. and as for any care if maintained well smooth like silk. btw you didn't mention if it was for indoor or outdoor?

very very free rolling drive train for a belt car .. very stable in the corners and carries excellant corner speed .. does pull like a shaft car out of the corners as well as off the line .. just remember with all cars set-up and maintance is the key to your car running at its best along with driving skills .. one cent spent ...

Parts support would be my number one item when choosing a touring car. Touring cars break (as well as all RC cars ever made) so assure that your LHS has parts on the wall or other racers can back you up in a pinch.
As far as belts vs. shaft, as long as you don't get an old street weapon or an old FSR triple belt car you will be competitive. X-ray, TC3, JRX-S, Yoke, TC4, Pro4 are all good picks.

err i didnt mean it to sound like that

A belt car in my opinion is the way to go. The car is more consistant. thats what i think. If you have a XXX-S you dont have to worry about mainainence. Shaft cars just have more punch out of the turns. Thats my opinion.

The belt car is much easier for mod or 19turn racing in the hands of the average racer. My Pro 4 has torque steer like all shaft cars, and if you don't have a good setup or arn't a great driver, the car can be inconsistant. But is balanced out by the greatly improved acceleration.
