Problems with EZrun brushless.
Hi,
Got an EZrun speed controller that's about 3 months old now but there is a problem with it.
Using fully charged batteries this is what happens:
Car will go flat out for a few seconds, then it goes slow, then it goes quick again, then it runs in limp mode, then it cuts out.
When it cuts out the red LED flashes.
This happens as soon as the battery is connected and is driven.
Realy annoyed as this is another speed controller we bought to update to version 2.
Any ideas? close to using a hammer

It's the Ezrun 60A speed controller and also tried a different handset, still the same.

Tested it today with both Lipo and Ni-Mh,
Lipo cut is set at 3.0v cell, Literally just turn it on with fully charged batteries and the batteries are brand new lipo 5000mah 30C.
It's not the batteries as this happens with the Ni-Mh too.
Right, you just turn it straight on from cold with charged batteries, the car just sort of goes fast for 2 or 3 secs, then goes in limp for 2 or 3 secs, then fast....it keeps on doing this.
Have adjusted the timing and neutral range and tried a different handset too.
Could it be a capacitor problem?
Just thought about this......... there are 2 capacitors for the esc.
Noticed one pack had more power than the other but not 100% sure on that yet, both will be charged and tested.
New to Lipos so only got a 0.8a charger, will get proper one.

Sounds very much like batteries mate. Need to charge them at 5 amps. Did the guy that sold you the batteries sell you the charger? What charger only goes up to 0.8 amps!?

That's the thing, it 100% isn't the batteries, have tried my old Ni-Mh packs and the new Lipo batteries and it's the same.
I know for sure that the Ni-Mh packs are fine as I was using them on another car the other week.
Had the lipos about a week so haven't got a proper charger yet, charging takes about 6 hours at the moment
It's 100% not the voltage cut either as it happens as soon as the car is switched on and driven.

Pretty sure that the esc is fake,
Mentioned this in the EZrun thread, only just taken extra heatsinks off.
Did post where it was from in other thread.
There is a normal sticker on the warrenty card and the esc, they are not hologram type stickers

Seriously tho, sorry man, it should still work although its fake. keep messing with it, in the mean time if you pm COBRARACING, he might be able to help you.

Lipo will charge with that low voltage. So thats not it, just make sure it is a Lipo charger or you are gambling with a fire situation. Make sure you dont have a cold solder joint with battery & ESC connectors. Also make sure connectors are good. How bout by passing power switch? I have seen many of those give problems.

Oh what motor are your runing and in what type of RC car? As the 60A units can't take high KV motors and loads.......

I will try and help you .

Thanks, will take pics of the esc and also show what I meant by extra heatsinks, it's the 5.5T motor.
Does anyone think that the capacitors could be causing a problem?

Sorry for some of the picture quality but had to use the phone.
This is the one that's playing up, it has normal stickers on the esc and the warrenty card:
