cutting the rotor

2 Attachment(s)
i was going to put a vxl system in my tt-01 until i tried to put the motor in and the rotor is too long. i was wondering if anyone has ever cut a rotor down to make it fit and how so would i do that. i was thinking of using a mill to cut it?

here are some pics sorry for the poor quality taken on a phone

Can't you shim the motor forward between the can and mount?

Or maybe remove a bit of material from the cover / chassis

room to turn the pinion around?

i thought about cutting a slot in the chassis but before i start cutting that i would rather cut the rotor cause on my b4 it sticks out of the gear cover

Use a Dremel cut off disk to shorten the shaft up. This is a pretty common issue in 1/8 electric vehicles.

Thing 3 racing do a spacer cooling plate

Is the rest of your driveline up to the task of a vxl motor?

jake95 12-08-2010 12:15 PM

just dremel it down:D

Tamiya makes a spacer plate that acts as a heatsink and spaces your motor out. Just look at option parts under TT01 Drift.

This is an important question, the VXL will blow up the stock TT01 drivetrain pretty fast.

If you run it on a 2S LIPO you should be fine. I don't know why everyone thinks the VXL is some crazy power house motor and it's going to blow everything up.

Just grind it down with a dremel. Press the shaft through a clear plastic bag and put blu tac around the hole so you don't get metal shavings in the motor.
