Should I shim to have a tiny bit of backlash with one on the outside and 1 behind the crown gear...Or two behind the crown which is still smooth but has no backlash and wont freely spin when I flick the diff out drive?

Hope all that makes sense cheers in advance.

Never had any car thats required or mentioned anything about shimming in the instructions before hence the need to ask.

If you are building the car from new i would recommend shimming the car as per the manual. It won't feel particulary free, but it should be smooth. after a days running the drive train would have freed up and parts would have bedded in, after this time shim so that there is a tiny amount of backlash (or you may want to leave it alone if you are happy with the car) .

It is hard to suggest an exact number of shims as every kit varies!

Shim everything per the instructions, the car will free up when you run it. If you have any more questions go ahead and ask them in the yokomo SD thread, we're all very helpfull there.
