I had a practice set of the new yellow banded tires the weekend before the Nats and had a fair amount of time on them. With the new tires, I was about .5 seconds slower than I had been for the three previous race weeks.
We seriously tested the two Jaco WGT compounds at the Paved Nats. It is obvious that the yellow banded tires were not as fast as the old ones on the carbon fiber wheels. I assume that this was ROAR's reason for not allowing the carbon fiber wheeled tires for either qualifying or racing. Some did use the old ones for practice; but, were decidedly slower when they switched.
The new yellow foam compound itself is waaaaaaay too soft. In my mind, Jaco should make the yellow band as narrow as possible to improve the overall performance of their WGT spec tires. More black pleeeeze!
