Default ESC and Motor Timing Combo's 17.5

Hello,
Im currently running an LRP Sphere TC Spec and recently picked up a Trinity Duo 17.5 which has adjustable timing. Just wanting to know what would be the best way to run timing? through the motor or esc or a combination of both? what seems to be the best settings for 17.5? what will more or less timing do? give me more torque/ RPM? Sorry im new to all this timing stuff.

Cheers

Try profile 8 on the TC spec. Check temps then try dropping a tooth on your pinion and advance the timing a bit. With a 17.5 you will probably end up with quite a bit of timing. Just be careful with the temps. Increasing timing either by speedo or motor will run hotter.

Thanks for that Pablo, my esc is already on 8 . So from what i gather if you increase timing you will get more RPM/ Top end but if you reduce the timing you will have more torque/ acceleration? And by dropping down teeth in the pinions that compensates for the reduce of torque when increasing timing?

You also have to drop teeth to keep temps under control. More timimg also means more heat. Try different timing/gearing combos and hopefully you will find a sweet spot.

If what i know is correct then timing on the can itself will only take affect upon initial take off and after that the timing is completely controlled by the speedy!!

I run ZERO degree of motor timing on the can and run higher throttle tomming on the speedo.

I find it gives me more lower-end torque (punch) off the start without heavy
battery loads with higher motor timing.

More throttle speedo advances the tomming for max top-speed.

I find that this works better for me. And now you know...

Thanks for the info. Im wanting to get the most torque out of my motor but not sacrafice to much top speed, will running the motor with zero timing or the esc with the least timing be better for torque?

Keep the motor at 0 (which is not really 0 anyway) and using the timing on the ESC. Gear down a couple teeth.

This will give you torque off the line and out of corners and top end down the straight.

Move your timing on your motor up 2 degrees at a time, run it for a few minutes and adjust again, until you find your desired torque and top end. then play with the speedo to smooth everything out.

Thanks for that. I can only adjust my motor 10degrees at a time, but ill give it a go. Any other opinions welcome! Just want to hear what seems to be the best way.

Cheers
