Tried a Vortex 2008 3.0T, thermaled after 4.30. But darnolds gave me some very useful tips, unfortunately i did not make it to the track lately. I will share my findings with you asap.

no problem what ratio were you running? what timing? Ive been running 10% timing( about3 degrees) with the 3.5 geared ar 9.56fdr and its been very good the motor comes off the track around 155 and the esc around 170 (with 6 lights showing) .Im going to dring the timing down all the way this weekend and try it out see if the esc temps go down some. I added the Seedpassion power cap to it and I have a small fan blowing the solder tabs to help out. no thermal issues . Im going to try the SP2.5 this weekend , I was wondering if anyone tried a 2.5 yet

setup was: 5-cell, Vortex 3.0T (default timing), fdr 9.3 (very large track), 20 percent timing. Besides the TSDs i had serious trouble keeping up on the straight with the LRPs, thats why i tried to increase timing. ESC thermaled at about 230F. For the next weekend I have (hopefully some things to try out, I modified the case to let air flow through the stacked pcbs and will mount a 30x30mm fan that blows at the soldering posts through the case, I also will try a larger cap (have two tekin caps mounted at the moment). We will see :-)

I guess you're running lipo or 6-cells?

On my R1 i run the Roche R4 Super Power Capacitor ROC-R4SC and it seems to like that. Its a little board with 4 caps on it.

Only problem is that the cap board is so long i cant fit it on my chassis so i have it cable tied to the wires

On the very large track we have I use 7.17 FDR!! I think 9.3 is way too small for large tracks

i run lipo, default timing is 12% (3.6 degrees) with a mod motor you should be at 0 timing the more timing the more heat, you can usually get better results leaving the timing down and gearing up.

with a 3.0T Vortex?? I'd say with a LRP and a 14mm Rotor this FDR would be OK, but the Vortex has a 12,25mm rotor, thus higher RPM. BUt anyways, I have to play around more with gearing and timing

Ran my RS Pro for the first time yesterday and got my best fast lap ever, down by .2. The other thing ... I almost got dq'ed for weight!! I didn't realize just how much lighter the RS Pro is than the GTB, i had to put 48grams on my car after just swapping speed controllers and leaving everything else the same.

Couple that w/ the hotwire and i'm a fan

i tried the RS Pro today with the SP3.5 and with 1% timing and it was ok, need it more gear , I just went back to the 12% timing it seems to work alot better.
