switch to lipo?
what type of battery is best for running a brushless motor in long runs? as in endurance races and long practice runs. sould i use a lipo or a nimh. which one will last longer and work better?

Lipo will last longer. I ran a platinum 4800 lipo with a novak 4300 in an enduro and got about 19 min per charge.

only 19 min? i can get about 25 out of a 3000nimh. but how many cells were there. and how long does it take to charge?

Its all in how you gear it. I had to gear mine to keep up with Nitro cars but not too much so that it would thermal. You have to balance the extended run time versus slower laps. My team ran two electrics and we were by far faster then all the rest of the teams. Unfortunately we had some bad luck and ended up 3rd. 100 laps into it we were up 5 laps in a 500 lap race.

25? That's alot. I guess it would also have to do with how tight and technical the track is, but 19 seems the norm for that motor and battery (BL4300 lipo) configuration. I've done a couple of enduros and never heard of anyone getting that much runtime, especially with something like 3000s.

its the neo-one sensored motor. it will run a logn time. how long will it take to charge a big lipo? and about how long will it last on the sensored brushless with a 9.4 or so gear ratio?

Did you actually time yourself at 25 min or is that just how it felt? I know 19 min felt like an hour. I would be surprised by 25 min with 3000mah batteries unless you are geared very conservatively and it is an easy track.

I noticed you are also in to drifting. Your run time wouldn't be based on a drift car would it? That's a completely different thing if you are.

Also, from what I understand the Neo-one is stronger than a 4300, so that run time is even more unbelievable.

it wasnt a full 25 min. probly more about 20 or so. the neo-one is a strong motor, but it is very efficient so... and it wasnt on a track, but it was constant movement like a race. it wasnt drifting either. trust me ive been in both worlds and know the differences in run times and all. if i had a 4300 nimh, would it last as long as the lipo? and would it take the same time to charge? or would it take longer?
individual enduros. only about 100 laps instead of the 5-8 minute races. my gear ratio is between 9.3 and 9.4 for the final. and it is a 18 pinion to a 75 spur. |

It depends on the lipo and the charger if they take longer to charge than a nimh. In general the lipo will last a little longer for the same MAH of battery. The IR tends to be better and the voltage drop is less. Now if you are looking at high end nimh then I would assume over the length of the packs they would be almost dead even. I have charged my lipos 7 or 8 times in a day. From a drain it takes a about an hour. The last 10% takes the longest. Some chargers handle this better then others.

so a 4300 lipo will last 30% logner then a 4300 nimh? are they more expensive?
