Not sure I see you point about the linkages efforts. Inside wheel or outside wheel?

If you have a corner clipping on your left wheel while turning, you will have a situation like pictured below:
Geometry when clipping a left hand corner.
So if a red force is acting on your left wheel due to barrier impact, your left wheel will have a reaction force from the servo holding the steering linkage. As the steering link on the left has only very small leverage (yellow fine line) to counteract that torque onto the wheel, further rotation can hardly be stopped and eventually a) the wheel rim will hit the top A-arm and break it, b) the wheel rim will hit the top A-arm and break itself or c) the driveshafts will bend/break.
You can test that limited "inside wheel stiffness" by trying to "overbend" the steering to more steering lock. For the outside wheel (blue in the picture), the angles are more favorable and thus the torque is higher to "overbend" the outside wheel.
So a steering stopper at the wheelhub acts as a (well designed) barrier to either crack the wheel rim or break the driveshafts by preventing excessive steering angles. If you only have a steering rack based steering limitation, it won't work.

So many new toys...
Inspite of thr global Covid situation, its awesome to know that boffins in rc car companies are still busy and motivated to innovate (and I do mean all companies, including the X brand).
In case no one has said it... A big Thanks to the rc companies for keeping our hobby interesting, fun and always new (and plenty for us to chat about...)
