Default Assistant on First RC Car. Is ECX good? 1/10 scale

HI guys, I am looking at teh EXC Torment 4WD brushed Motor truck on sales at horizon Hobby for $240. I am an airplane rc guy but would like to venture into the word of RC cars. The $240 price points seems to be pretty good. I would eventually want to upgrade to brushless. Should i pull the trigger on this?? I will not be competing or anything like that just something to drive like a mad man in the back yard. Is this car durable? I am worried that 4WD and brushed motors will break down easily.

1/10 Torment 4WD – Brushed Motor $240

I was also considering the 2WD drive versinon?

1/10 Torment 2WD SCT RTR, Brushed Motor $169

I would start with a traxxas. Of it you are going to be doing more racing than with one of the team associated rtr cars.

I don't know what you consider a "decent price", but for a couple hundred dollars more it's hard to beat the Traxxas brand. If you have a local Hobby Shop, go by there and you could probably take one home at or below the Horizon price. Stick with good name brands, you'll be happier in the long run.

No Traxxas 4wd is way overpriced. You can get a Losi scte for same price. ECX isn't to bad of a starter truck. Not great for racing but good for a first truck.

Losi are kinda out of my price range. I can spend about $250 max on a ready to run kit. I believe 4wd drive would be better for off roaring and flying through dirt and grass

And 4wd and you are going to want brushless, and brushless will put you over 250 dollars...

I think the associated rtr cars are decent...and come with a brushless system, and are under 250 dollars.
