I agree that Deans ultra is not the problem. I have been running them on 4S and 6S for 4 years now.

In what car and with what gearing are you running 3s and a 2650?

I have melted Deans plugs several times , usually its because as stated before after a while the spring tags start to loose their spring and stop pushing the plugs contacts together . This causes resistance which equals heat build up .
I would either switch to EC5 plugs or those new Castle plugs , I have never had an EC5 de solder itself yet ......
You guys saying deans are OK on higher voltages have to be aware that at lower voltages the amperage draw goes up and that is the problem , higher voltage systems usually have a lower amperage draw ....

Replace both dean's male and female as a set with new genuine dean's connecters and if properly soldered it will be the end of problems........ don't forget if you over heat the dean's while soldering they will melt ever so slightly inside and not be a good connection and you will get what you discribed above
Deans get dirty, the plastic can wear out, they can be nuked by low power soldering irons.
Or maybe the wire just plain got pulled off. It happens to me, from time to time.
A Deans plug shouldn't act like anything other than 12g wire.
You can also plug in and fire up your car. If you use a Fluke, you can voltage drop test the plug. While the motor is running. Make sure that one side of the + terminal on the plug and the other side of the + terminal have ZERO volts. If you read a volt or two drop, especially under load, then the contact is bad. You can do the same to the - side.
I make sure that my Amain cars have Deans plugs less than a year old.
