In the spirit of everyone talking about slippers, how about the Exotek slipper eliminator for 17.5 class racing? I just received mine and can't wait to see how it feels on the track. I just wish the transmission was all metal hehehe :-P

I mainly initially changed over because the cost of the spur gears I wanted were kind of out there. Package deal with tons of spurs with the avid setup was cheap, but of course the gear cover leaves something to be desired.

When I started racing, the diff was the slipper! This assumes of course that you had a car with a ball diff.

I really really really don't see myself every taking my slipper off and going direct drive. This seems pretty counter productive.

This is part of the reason I switched to the avid slipper. Avid spur gears are 5-7 bucks and AVAILABLE. Team Durango machined spurs are 15 dollars and very very hard to find. Stock Durango spurs are darn near unusable they are so out of round. I've been waiting over a year for an 87 tooth machined spur for my 410. Doesn't seem like Amain will ever get them.

I also run the lightened slipper plates. I noticed a large difference in tempearture of my slipper using the lightened plates.

In 17.5 classes the removal of the slipper is a good thing IMO. It brings less rotational mass which gives you cooler temps, quicker acceleration, and fewer parts in the drive-train.

FYI, the machined Schumacher spurs work for the DEX210 slipper unit. They are a direct fit and are almost always in stock

Any opinions Dino on the rear aluminum carriers? I am thinking of just going to plastic and selling these since they are a real pain to get the inserts to slide in and out of, not sure why.

Lastly, what are you thoughts on things to help compensate for a 35 setting versus 30?
The aluminum carriers offers adjustments to the outer camber link height to adjust roll centers. This is great if you want that extra fine tuning adjustment for your car. Most of the time I mainly do the inner camber link height. Outside one is a finer adjustment. Also the aluminum carriers are slightly heavier than plastic. This aids in addition grip. But if the track is low bite, I just stick a 7g lead weight to the rear hub carrier and that gives me a ton more grip on the rear.

As for your question to compensate for a 35 setting vs 30? Are you referring to shock oil or caster? Normally for shock oils, you have to change pistons if you still want to run 30wt instead of 35 and have the same pack. Normally it would be 1 size smaller in piston lets say 3x1.6 to go to a 3x1.5 but its not exact as the temperature will affect dampening and pack.
Or are you referring to caster?

sorry I should have clarified, this is for caster. of all the parts, it didn't come with more of the little inserts so I am stuck at 35.

Hello all, I'm about to pull the trigger on a DEX2 and I wanted to ask a question or two....hopefully to the response of someone - LOL!

I'm looking for a few "must have" parts when I purchase...pay shipping once sort of idea. What spacers do I need to grab for the ball studs? What spur gear do I need for 17.5 reedy sonic (69/33)? The Durango gears are off the charts expensive! What spur gear do I need to buy? Will associated work? Schumacher?

Fredswain, this question is for you. I have been reading your work in "frequency" tuning and I would like to know, do I need to be concerned with buying any springs tuning kits or is the kit springs accurate enough?

Aside from the standard spare parts (hubs, arms etc.), should I grab anything else when I place my order?

Thanks for the information

from what I have heard, you can get the tresrey setup to use AE spurs, or you can get the avid setup and use there spurs. Only issue with that option is fit of another gear cover, avid's come with there own.

I run in an area that I need the cover, so got lucky on a deal with a variety of spurs.

Probaby sell the avid setup I got here so if you think you would interested shoot me a pm.

I could not achieve balance with only the kit springs. I have the full Durango set of front and rears.

I agree with fred, you will want springs and pistons and probably a couple types of oil. The balance of the car changes greatly depending on what electronics you use and where you mount them as well as mid motor versus rear motor.

do you have a part number by chance? I actually have an 81 for my DEX210 but I really need one for my DEX410…not sure if the shumacher would fit that car too?
