Balancing off-road tires
 

I read in a mag where a pro driver said always balance your tires. I have hard enough time gluing them. Anyone have any helpful suggestions on either of these things? Thanks.

Balancing off road rims sounds crazy to me! They day rim balance affects my performance will be the day Team AE come knocking at my door with a contract! At my rate, that is about 24 hours after Satan buys a snow coat.

Which, by the wya, is the day I will also be able to glue rims with no drama (and no CA on the furniture)

So then would setting up your car would be crazy too. To be a good driver you must have a good set up, the 1/10 scale is diffrent from the 8th scale. I was going to start balancing my 10th scale wheels but i dont think ill notice. But the 8th scale is diffrent with bigger wheels so i would balance 8th scale befor my 10th scale. Its all about your set up, yeah its about the driver not the car. But if the car is not set up to the track then you cant drive it its harder is the tires. some people think they wont notice it but you will. your tire will bounce.

This makes a really big difference on 1/10th stadium tires. They can be WAY out of balance, it's the same effect as rolling on tires that aren't round.

helps ur suspension, helps ur drivetrain, reduces wear, increases performance. ur bearings and outdrives will thank u.

It does feel better. I have nothing better to do at big races in between rounds when there is like 3 hours to kill. :ha:

Balancing is a must...

If you don't balance your tires, think about when you hold your car and squeeze to full throttle, now imagine how your car reacts when rolling at high speed when it's shaking like that.

Recently, I talked someone into balancing their tires, and they tried it and actually thought they were having motor problems because their car seemed to be going slower. It wasn't going any slower, it was just that much smoother!

Give it a shot.. I use a magnetic prop balancer... It will balance truck tires too.

You wouldn't drive your real car with unbalanced tires, would you? Why would you run a scale car with unbalanced tires? The difference is quite noticeable.

Not only do I balance my 1/8th tires and my 1/10th tires but I also balance my 1/18th mini tires. And 38 years ago when I was racing slot cars I balanced my 1/24th and HO slot car tires/wheels. Every one I have talked into balancing tires has been glad they did. I even balanced some 1/10th pan rubber cap tires for a friend for use on a large concrete oval track (the pan cars hit 50+ MPH on this track).

I use cap tires every weekend on our concrete oval. BSR is still making them.

Balancing makes a huge difference both on and off-road. Take the time and do it right. Why fight your equipment when there are enough other variables to worry about during a race.

What's a good tire balancer?

top flite magnetic and basic modeler's clay. u can get a whole brick from ur hobby store that'll last u the rest of ur life for 2bux.
