Default Cheap LiPo

Righto, Should I go cheap?

Generally I wouldn't, After all you only get what you pay for, and I'm usually pretty happy to pay for quality.

Anyway, Amainhobbies have their own brand of batteries which they have recommended to me, I'm fine with that, Though I told them the fact they were so cheap is more likely to make me not buy them.

So, anyone have any thoughts on them?, anyone actually used them? Is the price as cheap as I think it it? For that price I can buy 2 compared to the 1 trakpower I was looking at.

Link for the item.

hmmm...I just looked at maxamps, they are cheaper again? (my mistake, they are more expensive)

Is cheap good enough?

I race, But on a budget.

So, On the same subject, whats a cheap charger that can do Lipo?..and do it well. No Power supply needed as NZ is on 240v.

I'd love to get an ICE charger but that would cost near $200NZD so it ain't going to happen.

I would point you to an Hyperion EOS5i w/ lba10 balancer. GREAT setup and if you don't need the ac/dc version pretty reasonable in price! go to b-p-p.com for the best prices on this charger package, free shipping to boot.

This has caught my eye, and it will work on NZ voltage.

Amainhobbies.com is a leading RC mail order house but they are not Walmart or Target. You can bet the LiPo they sell will be of good quality because they are a small buisness (in the grand scheme of things) they cannot afford the damage of reputation that would come from filling the market with a junk battery.

For those worried about the cost of a LiPo battery, remember that you only need to buy one. I race two classes and I own two batteries. There is no need for a case full of batteries with Lipo. You can take them out of the car warm from running and hook them up to the charger and they will cool while you charge them. Sound's better than a drawer full of cells and balancing equipment, don't you think?

Hell yeah, I think too. I hate battery wars. The Protek items are great. I don't have the one posted above but I would not be scared of it. In fact, next time I need something from Amain I will buy one of these for practicing. I do have the RX lipos for both of my 8th scales and my 10th scale gas truck. Our LHS hasn't allowed Lipo yet. Well....as long as the owner doesn't see them, he said he doesn't care. But he would disqualify the car if he saw us with the lipos in on race day. But for practicing he could care less. But people would be griping if someone used lipo and was winning all the time.

If this weekend wasn't the end of outdoor here I'd probably order that right now..

Anybody seen the lipo adapter for your current chargers from losi? It's pretty cheap in price and then you can use your current charger.

How do you balance a battery like in that link that has a balancing plug with three wires going into it?

omfg i'm drunk, but you did nothing in terms of research. That thing requires the astroflight lipo charger. Go and invest in the hyperion 5 amp charger for $ 65 american dollars. It works well and will do a great job of charging your packs.

Part of research is asking opinions from users, especially ones on the ground floor so to speak, seeing as I have no one within a few thousand miles to ask in person the subject was brought up on a worthy forum.

Likewise, I can find plenty of cheap chargers, I wouldn't buy one without some positive input from people that have used them.

Preferably ones that don't feel the need to skite about consuming a drink.

And what "thing" requires the astroflight lipo charger?..The balancer?...That would make you wrong. So I presume you must be referring to something else?

Can be used to balance pack while charging (use with any dedicated Lithium Charger). Can also be used to balance the pack after charging to ensure correct voltage of EACH cell within the pack!

The amazing Astro "Blinky" Lithium battery balancer works with just about ALL lithium packs and has to be one of the best units for ensuring
