mamba or novak??

mamba or novak??
im running a b 4 buggy and have decided to go brushless , i dont bash it i use it for club racing only, right now im running a reedy 15 turn motor. im thinking of getting a novak 7.5 or 8.5 , or possibly a mamba 5700. just looking for some pros and cons on the two systems , gearing suggestions , and any info in general on switching to brushless

Be careful getting a mamba max system, it cogs and will adversely affect your racing. Believe me, I owned 2 in the past and tried everything I could to get it to work properly, and it never did.
For a B4, I suggest a Novak 6.5r and GTB system, you will love it

i think the novak is more 'predictable' and thus more controllable. I think more suitable for race and tuning.
I've found my mamba25 to cog and have 'turbo-lag' until I used very good high discharge lipos. Maybe it's got to do with the fact that it's sensorless. But if you still wanna go with sensorless brushless systems, just make sure your batteries pump out more amps than the motor requires. And maybe use a big capacitor.

I have the SphereComp & GTB both are very smooth.
The Lrp7.5 or 7.5R will have more torque,speed and midrange than your 15T.
My 6.5 has to much power for indoor (BUT GREAT FOR BASHING!!!).
Sory I have not tried Mamba or any sensorless
all I can say is I've heard they're better for bashing.

I've raced sensorless brushless in off road mini's for a couple of years and the trick is hot cells, proper setup of the esc, and gearing. Unless you are going to run high capacity lipo packs I'd go with one of the sensored rigs in 10th scale. We have local guys running both the novak and castle brushless systems with no problems in 10th 2wd, but they are all running 6 or 8 K 7.4V lipo packs.

thanks for all of the response guys the only problem i can see is that alot of you guys running mamba are also running lipo batteries . the few tracks that i race at i have not made lipos legal YET lol. i run 3600 and 4200 nimh packs . im looking for a little more overall speed and power than my 15t reedy im running and i have to put new brushes in every week , thats getting old fast.

I've ran both. And can tell ya the Mamba is fast, but will drain the heck out of the battery pack. Which will tell ya its definitely putting the fire to the motor. They run hot and not very efficient. None the less lightning fast.
The Novak runs cooler and more efficient draining the battery less. Yet just as fast. The ability to run on lower voltage is what keeps them running cool I would guess, and makes the low end smoother and would be more appropriate for 2 wheel buggy. I would guess the 5800 to be the best motor for one. I sure have seen a lot of post out numbering that thought. It seems the 6.5 or 7.5 is the way to go.

I run a MM 5700 in my xxx-4 with a maxamps 2s 4000mah. I am thinking of getting a MM 4600 just because the 5700 has a lot of room I don't use much, plus I am thinking if the 4600 extends my run time (?), then it might be easier to run a little longer (on the same battery) with the nitro vehicles I get mixed in with. But I would not say the 5700 is necessarily "too much" in the xxx4.

as far as i know most places only allow sensored brushless motors so if you are doing this to race go with novak or lrp unless your club just doesn't give a rats ass.
