Default Which .12 engine for 1/10 gas truck?

I am torn between the OS .12 TZ or the Novarossi Top TN12R2. Which is better for fuel economy and has more low end grunt? I will be pairing these up with an Adam Drake pipe.

Thanks!

scrap both and get the nova CX12 RN2.

the TZ is too powerful for gas truck, strictly an on road engine.

i like the OS 12 CVR, they have a great power band for offroad, and are really good on gas, and really well priced, they arn't the fastest motor out there by any means, but they are really nice and smooth,

Is it for bashing or racing?

If it's for racing then I agree with bobf24 about the OS CVR.

If it's for bashing then get the most powerful engine you can find.

(I use a '03 Fantom FR12R in my Losi XXX-NT and it is one one the quickest trucks on the track because the powerband allows the rear wheels to hook up without spinning. Our fastest racer uses the old OS CV in his GT.)

that's what i use......just a plain 'ol os cv. the cheapest motor they make. i just take off that cast head and put a good head on it. it's easy to tune, holds a tune and is waaaaay more than enough power for local racing. it'll pull the front end off the ground on a regular basis. paired up with an os t-1030 pipe and it's a rocket. here's mine.......

Sorry I should have said I'll be racing only.

I had the Mugen MT12 that came with my truck and that lasted a looong time...lol! When that wore out all the guys at my track swore by the Dynamite .12 spd so I gave in due to how cheap it was. It lasted about a month!?! So I want to go back to something more reliable.

I have an O'Donnell cooling head that is in an Associated AE 12x Cylinder Head P/N 29090 bag. Will this fit the OS CV?

i'm not totally sure, but i think it will. however, i use a King Headz head....part number KH-060.

http://www.kingheadz.com

if os rocket made heads for .12's, i'd buy one of those in a second....but they just make heads for .21's only (as far as i know). i use an os rocket head on my os vzb v-spec.

also....nitrohouse.com has THE o'donnell heads for the os .12 in purple color. scroll down to the bottom of the page. they're only 15.95 each.

The Novarossi will give you the same reliability and longetivity as the MT12 you had. Also, you were not able to repinch the cylinder or get a replacement cylinder and piston to revive the MT12?

just go with os cvr rotary carb. I looked at several motors, i even found a brand new in the shrinkwrap mt12. I may give a little up on the straightaway but motor has tons of torque and run really well. I had a os tr that was just a real handful and i had issues.

Isn't that the engine you have to gear to the moon before you see the performance it's supposed to put out???

I am using the stk gearing for the drake 2, i also 3/4 of a once in the front bulkhead to help keep the front end down and gain some steering. the motor is perfect for stadium. the tracks we race on are getting blown out due to the the other class's. major HP is wasted. i considered on getting another CVR and have it worked over for the bigger tracks.

I'm using a TZ in my truck and it is a bit overpowered, gotta be real smooth with the trigger and make sure to put the front wheels back on the ground before hitting the face of the jump.

Anyone know when to get carb restrictors for the rotary carb TZ?

You best bets will be either the OS 12cvr or the new OS 12tg. The new OS 12tg looked to be designed for offroad use in stadium trucks, giving you more controllable power for 2wd trucks than the OS 12tz. One of the best engines for this purpose was the Mugen MT12, but it was discontinued a couple of years ago.
