Welcome to the SO1.0 - YZ-2 DTM3.1 / CAL3.1 Wiki!

More about SO1.0

Where does SO naming come from?

Yokomo recently took advantage of the newly released Elite / Factory Kit to rename it's current product lineup. SO naming means Super Off-road 1.0. This is a common naming style for Japanese Gunpla models. The higher the grade the more detailed a kit would be.

Does that mean that Yokomo will be releasing more 2WD kits?
Basically, yes. There's a new RO1.0 or Rookie Off-road car kit in the works. Taking a look to Yokomo roadmap, it's expected to be released in Q1 2023.

New SO1.0 Features

The SO1.0 is all in one kit, combining best of both high grip and low grip worlds.
  • Short specification main chassis for carpets. Using the older CAL3 spec chassis.
  • Aluminum front suspension mount, DTM3.1 based.
  • Z2-DTM2B F2 body.
  • Gokuraku off-road wing set.
  • -3mm front shock tower, CAL3.1 spec based.
  • Low RF and RR mounts, CAL3.1 spec based.
  • 4.3mm front and rear hexes, CAL3.1 spec based.
Many alloy upgrades included:
  • Standard size front aluminum camber mount.
  • Aluminum rear camber mount.
  • Aluminum steering bellcrancks.
  • Aluminum steering rack.
  • Aluminum bellcranck base.
  • Ti coated front and rear shock shafts.
Best of both worlds:
  • Gear differential and ball differential included in the kit.
  • LD and LC transmission cases included.
  • Sway bars included.
  • Both carpet and dirt shock pistons.
  • Carpet and dirt shock springs.
New DTM3.1 Features
  • Long specification for dirt Main chassis Inheriting the chassis cut of dirt specification, it is longer with the same wheelbase as CAL3.
  • Aluminum front suspension mount.
  • Z2-DTM2B F2 body.
  • JConcepts ASTRO High Clearance 7inch Wing.

New CAL3.1 Features
  • Long specification main chassis for carpets. Long wheelbase that enables even higher speeds.
  • Steel front suspension mount.
  • Z2-DTMBL S2 Lightweight body.
  • Z2-CAL2W LMR Wing.
New DTM3.1 / CAL3.1 common features:
  • The conventional position and the position of the suspension arm pin 1 mm higher can be selected on the front and back of the front suspension mount.
  • Bulkhead integrated side plate with increased rigidity.
  • The kingpin position has been changed with the new steering hub carrier, the axle position has been lengthened by 1 mm, and a steering stopper has also been added.
  • Battery holder that is easy to adjust according to the height of the battery.
  • Separate the rear mount base and upper arm holder to increase the flex around the rear and improve traction.
  • Z2-018-5 5-hole shock mounting specification Rear shock tower.
  • S4-S1S 3.0mm shaft specification front shock.
  • S4-S1M 3.0mm shaft specification rear short shock.
  • S4-008R5B L5 / LD Rear suspension arm (Φ3.5 pin).
  • Z2-01069 Rear universal shaft (69mm bone).

U6734 is medium hardness insert. Carpet and turf tires are expected to use softer foams inserts for better handling and wear characteristics

Been wondering what's the best way to cut the foam and maintain reasonably round shape

a racer in the region makes a set of cutting guides we use here, makes cutting the foams a snap:

he also make some "shims" that go into the guide for different cut sizes. I'd say specify what foams you are wanting to cut so you get it the way you want, but he was very helpful in the past. His name on Rctech is Cromulent .

So as part of a modified class here that has a tire limit rule (no carpet tires, clay style, etc are allowed), I am going to give some honeycombs a go on rear (fronts can be anything). been awhile since I last ran those, and we are allowed to sauce them, any tips you all have when running them on grey CRC carpet?

As an update, tomorrow is the big day so for the next leg in the RC Underground Winter Series in Warren MN, 1 more after this, got a new setup to try here with the AE 13mm shocks, will report back on how it goes, main thing is going with bigger piston holes for closer pack / dampening measured settings to what I was using with Yokomo shocks, based on Ray Munday's charts:

Got a race report here:

RC Underground Winter Series Round # 5

Fast track layout this time:

For 2wd Buggy 17.5 Spec class, the Tekin power curve profiles and other setup options gave consistent power delivery as well as breaking action to prevent getting out of sorts going into a high speed 90 degree turn with 2 jumps in it. Finally got a setup going on the new 13mm shock package on my Yokomo CAL3.1, basically beyond a SO 1.0 at this point and was able to TQ the class in the first Heat, while unfortunately breaking out in the second. Going into the main the track conditions became almost greasy, but I was able to take the win with apparently a lap on the field due to the consistently of how the car delivered power to the surface, setting what appeared to be the fastest lap of the night, beating my TQ's best lap by .01 second.

I have been playing around with the AE 13mm shocks, and I would say after the changes I made the car was extremely consistent and handled the more aggressive jumps and landings better than my 12mm shock setup. I hope Yokomo gives this a look to make there own version with their quality.

Yes, it should. I swapped my yok truck battery hold down to my 3.1. I just never liked the 3.1 hold down system.

Yes, and it's waaaaay better. You can fit all 3.1 parts in the 3.0 except 3mm shock shafts. You would need new shock bodies and guides for that

I am looking to upgrade my DTM 3.0 to the latest spec aka SO1.0. Anyone have a list of parts? Thanks in advance.
