Kyle, Ashley and I were going to race the April Fools Classic in Salt Lake City but forget that! We will be at Pegasus for sure. I'll see if I can round up a few more racers from Vegas to come down!
Thanks Jeremy, Keith and Pegasus for doing what you're doing! You guys are awesome!

Cheers!

Well, Jeremy and Keith, just let me kwo when you need some manpower to build things such as that drivers stand box, or the track, or anything like that. Remember, I coaxed Doug into helping me put the cover over the stand at Hot Rods and it is still the best cover in SOCAL by far. No poles in the front and plenty high enough for everyone, even on boxes, lol.

Chris B- Thanks for the support. We will definitely be doing everything we can to insure that you leave feeling that the change in venue for that weekend was a good decision.

Regarding help:

First I'd like to thank everyone that has offered to help with the track. I can tell you for sure that the track will be going in the week after Cactus. We are shooting for that Wednesday but it all depends on when we can get the Bobcat over. We will definitely let you guys know if we could use some help out there. I personally consider it our responsibility to provide you guys/gals with a place to race and don't want to burden the racers with such a thing. I also know that some of you get pretty pumped about building tracks so if you want to come out because you enjoy it we will gladly shovel dirt alongside you.

Default Classes Offered

Ok everyone, we have finalized the classes that we will be offering. We have made some changes to the current class structure. Everything that we've done is in an effort to create a more effective skill ladder to climb, wrangle up the talent pool because it is currently to spread out, as well as to implement newer technologies that are important if electric is to succeed in the future. (At least thats what we mean to do) We plan on holding 2 (possibly 3) big races each year as well and this would be the class breakdown for those as well.

Rookie- This of course is the beginner class. This is a run what you brung class. We encourage stock motors and standard 6 cell batteries but we will allow any power combination and any chassis (2wd, truck, 4wd). Our goal here is to prevent any newcomers from being able to race because they don't have the proper equipment.

Intermediate Truck/Buggy- A step above rookie these classes will be relegated to any Roar legal stock motor and any Nicd or Nimh. Drivers at this level should be able to get around the track with confidence, but not necessarily with solid lines or precision. This will be the place to learn to deal with traffic and how to drive tight lines and control your vehicle in the air. If you're feeling good about your ability to do those things...then you are probably ready for the next class.

Stock Truck/Buggy- The heart and soul of any racing program. These classes have the same rules as Intermediate. ROAR legal stock motor with any NiCD or NiMH battery. This will be the equivalent of the "sportsman stock" class that is run at SoCal. This class will probably have the widest range of skill level from slowest to fastest and is absolutely the spot to turn "driving" abilities, into "racing" abilities.

Pro Stock Truck/Buggy- This is where we've altered the program. In an effort to create a concrete ladder of progression we will no longer have a seperate Expert Stock Class and a 19 turn class. Instead our Pro Stock class will allow you to run up to a 19t motor (any ROAR legal machine wound 19t). It is our belief that this will shrink the talent pool and bring some prestige back to the pro stock classes out there. We will also be allowing any battery in this class so you may run Lipo packs. I realize that many lipos are lighter than their NiMH bretheren so in the interest of fairness we will be teching the cars for weight to make sure that they are legal. We will have lead weight on hand and will hand it out to anyone that needs it (free of charge). I am totally aware that this change will take some getting used to, but I truly believe that this setup presents the best formula for stock class prestige, as well as introducing new technology into a segment of r/c that desperately needs to be revamped. I'm fully expecting some discussion surrounding these choices and welcome it. I feel like its the type of thing that will only work if "done right..." and we plan on doing it right.

Modified 2wd, 4wd, and Truck- These classes will of course be your standard mod classes with no motor or battery limit. (*NOTE* We are also very open to running a 4wd stock class. With the recent 4wd boom there are many sportsman stock class drivers that are forced to run modified in their 4wds because they have no other choice. Many years ago this made sense because the batteries and motors of the day couldn't really deal with the drag of the less efficient cars of the day. In this day and age; however, motors/batteries have greatly improved along with the efficiency of the 4wd drive train. This makes stock 4wd extremely feasible and I think it would be a great alternative to those drivers that are having trouble with breakage when running their 4wd machines. If you own a 4wd car and are interested in a stock class please let us know and we will get that on the sign up sheet)

1/10th Scale Gas Truck- We will be offering both sportsman gas truck and expert gas truck classes. The qualifiers will be 5 minutes with 20min A-mains and 10min lower mains and of course there will be bump ups.

Jeremy what about allowing the 3200 LiPo batteries for Rookie, Intermediate & Stock. If you are going to "implement newer technologies" I think this would be good move. Just a suggestion...

I have a thought... what about 6 min mains? I think mod/pro stock for sure, maybe the others except rookie? Just throwing some ideals out there..

Trip and dag--Those are great ideas that you guys are bringing up... We will consider these ideas so that everyone that comes out to race is satisfied. Our main goal is to bring you guys what you want and this is a great start to the suggestions. Keep your suggestions coming and feel free to ask either of us any questions. We can;t wait to kick this thing off....

Dag- The rookie class will allow lipos as that class is run what you brung. The feeling among many right now is that lipos have more power than conventional cells and that it may be too great an advantage in the stock classes. I've heard that the gap between the two is shrinking but I would really like to test them out myself before we start allowing them in all classes. We also need to get a few races under our belts to get used to the program before we start teching all classes. Due to the extreme difference in weight between lipos and NiMH it will be important to enforce the roar weight requirement in any classes allowing them (lipos) to be sure that cars are not running under the legal limit. (which I actually think would make your car handle terribly anyway) We will not be teching a cars weight in non-lipo classes as we'd like to keep a relatively low pressure; high fun environment going for those that are still getting used to organized racing.

We will; however, be monitoring the situation and will be open to making changes as they become necessary. Everyone's input has been great and it is much appreciated. I love the idea of 6 minute mains in Pro Stock and Modified classes and I now plan on running those classes with that length of main event.

I can't wait to see you all out there...if you've ever wanted to introduce a "non-rc" friend to the hobby I think this will be the time to do it. This is going to be a lot of fun.

By the way I'd also like to give a shout out to everybody that plans on heading out to the Cactus. I'll be heading out there on Tuesday and if you're out there you should definitely come by and say whats up...we can chill out and rap for a bit. With Jimmy Babcock running the races and the huge support from overseas its sure to be one of the best Cactus Classics of all time.

Default 2nd Page?

Just had to give this puppy a bump up to the top. Maybe we need something cool to discuss. Ok I've got it. The outside population generally sees R/C as a pretty nerdy thing to do...until they see it in person of course at which point the bras hit the stage and you need security to escort you to and from the track.

What do you do outside of R/C that might be considered even less lucrative to your social standing? Stamp collecting? Chess team? I myself am addicted to getting pennies pressed at disneyland.

Let the world know...you'll feel better about yourself once you get your goofy habits into the open.
