2009 Horizon Shootout

Entries are now being accepted for what is quickly becoming one of the hottest nitro races of the year, the 2009 Horizon Shootout. This all 1/8 scale event will be held on the weekend of September 25-27th at one of the Midwest’s premier facilities, J-Tec Racing & Fun in Tilton IL.

Many of the Nations top drivers will be in attendance including 2008 Shootout Champions Adam Drake, Billy Fischer and electric ace Dakotah Phend. It will be a tough task for theses drivers to repeat in 2009 as the list of challengers is sure to grow in numbers and skill. Some of the challengers will include one of the best up-and-coming young nitro racers in the country, Derek Weatherholt, Josh Stough, Jason Hudson, and 2008 IFMAR 1/8-scale Worlds TQ Mike Truhe. Greg Vogel from R/C Driver Magazine will be retuning to provide excellent race coverage, while the world’s premier race announcer Scotty Ernst will be on hand to call all of the racing action.

Classes for 2009 Shootout include 1/8 Nitro Buggy, 1/8 Nitro Truggy, and, new for 2009, the addition of an 1/8 Electric Buggy class. The Schedule will see Friday as an open practice day with the first of 3 rounds of qualifying starting at 10am on Saturday morning. Sunday will be reserved for mains only in effort to get everyone on the road home at a decent time.

In addition to all the racing action Horizon Hobby will once again be opening up the prize vault handing out thousands of dollars in race prizes. The newest products from Horizon Hobby will be on display and members of the Horizon Air and Heli Team will conduct demos throughout the weekend.

Last years event was considered by many to be one of the most fun events they had ever attended, with this year’s race promising to be event better. Entries will be limited to 200 and are expected to fill up fast. For information log onto www.jtecracing.com or give them a call at 217-442-7223.

Is there going to be a Dirt Oval Race Sat Night like last year? I thought that was one of the highlights of the event and was planning to bring mine along this year.

Danny B, Sorry we will not be running the Oval this year. We are trying to run all qualifiers on Saturday and some of the lower mains if possible on Saturday night. That way we can get everyone out of here early on Sunday especially for the drivers that came long distances can get home at a decent hour.
