What are the preferred tires/wheels for 190mm car in a rough asphalt parking lot around 70 degrees?

Chris
From the website:
"Tire & Wheel Specifications:
The only tires allowed are HPI tire part #4793 front and #4797 rear, using stock tire inserts provided with tire and any HPI Vintage wheels designed to fit these tires. Five or Eight spoke wheels available in various colors. 0mm offset front wheels and 6mm offset rear wheels are intended for 26mm width fronts and 31mm width rear tires. 8-spoke Vintage wheels from #3805 through #3814, 5-spoke Vintage wheels from #3815 through #3822 and Vintage stock car wheels from #3854 through #3860 are all legal wheels.

Grinding of tire tread is NOT permitted. Sanding of mold seam to remove seam is allowed. HPI Vintage Slicks are not allowed. Tire traction compounds are at the discretion of the track. No other altering, changing or softening of the tire is allowed."

The tires actually work well as they come. Just add your favorite traction compound.

Rick Vessel made a mold on a rapid prototype machine at work, and vacuformed it of butylrate. It is bolted to an HPi Camaro.

Let's see if we can convince him to make a bunch for us

Just want to say that yesterday was the most fun I have had racing in a long time! Thanks to Eric, Doug and all the sponsors for providing a GREAT race. Thanks to all that made this a fantastic event! I'm looking forward to next time.

What a wonderful experience that was yesterday. From racing, to the facility and to the best looking cars. What more can you ask for?

A big thanks to the entire Whitsides family. Eric for running an extra smooth race and keeping everyone informed. There was a lot of newer people there and to me knew exactly what they needed to do. Karen for being very attentive at the store and always smiling. I don't even get that at my local hobbyshop! And RJ for helping me out looking for some odd ball screws that I needed. What a cool Kid with a great taste in cars ( tc5) Even though I've only been there three times they always make me feel welcomed.

I had a great time at the Trans Am race this Saturday. Being pitted between "The Princess" and Gary Katzer and right accross from Trouble Maker #1 and all the other guys at my table, made for a very entertaining day.

"The Track" did a wonderful job of hosting this event.

It was way cool seeing all those "Muscles Car" on the track.

Ideas suggestion for the next event;
1. Have a Trans Am points series, run on 4 - 6 of the tracks around the midwest.
2. Maybe have the race a little later in the year, Mid-May AND have a car show associated with the Trans Am race. I would bring my 98 Mustang Cobra.
3. Better yet an outdoor parking lot race Trans Am race and car show combo.

Trans Am forever

We did this basic thing two weeks ago- Cavalcade of Wheels at Notre Dame. Car show and RC racing. The Vintage TA cars definitely were one of the crowd favorites (we ran 12th, TC, Stadium Trucks, Oval, and Vintage- kind of a mini-Snowbirds...)

Default Lost Equipment

Folks-

There were 2 items left here on Saturday that you WILL NEED before your next race. PLEASE check your gear and call me if they are yours. I will overnight them to you if I have to to get them to you.

Oh boy, now I've done it! I'll see what can be done but no promises.

Thanks to everyone for a great race! Some of you know that I travel quite a bit for work and have raced or wrenched at lots of races at all levels. This was by far the most enjoyable one I've been to in a long time.

On to my "secret project" for next year.

BTW,

Part numbers for the sound unit. It's nothing special and in fact it's meant for R/C tugboats!

I used a smaller speaker to fit in the car:

Thanks to Rob King for help with the "megaphone" to increase the volume.

Sound was cool!! I thought it would have been really cool if the pitch on the sound rev'd up when you hit the throttle but it sounded like it was in idle mode all the time. The unit you posted looks like it should change tone... is there something you were unable to hook up to make it work that way? Or was I just not hearing it correctly?

It did change pitch with the throttle. It was a little hard to hear on the track when everyone was running though. The board isn't amplified so it's not really loud anyway. 10 cars running sound at once would be pretty cool though.

You have 1 year to figure that out....next year, you need lights, smoke, engine rev higher when accellerate everything thats look like a real Trans-Am...

(hint:....run indoor Nitro on carpet )
