Old TC Cars - Still Racing Competitively
#1235

Obviously not the oldest chassis here by any means,
but I’ve been running my 2015 T4 for a year now against the top new chassis’s, I’ve got to say.
Not much of a difference in laptimes
11.65 (new Chassis’s)
11.7 (2015 T4)

I agree, I bought the 2021 only because I haven't had any Xray (too orange until now) and because this model is marketed as "having all the hop-ups you need in the box"

Not much difference once you free up the drivetrain of the old cars and lower the cg as much as possible...
It took alot of dremeling and bearing hub reaming to get my tc4 drivetrain free for usgt, but once done( ptfe gear lube only) it was whisper quiet like the belt cars and getting competitive speed wise: driver wise was another story...lol... The pandemic and the two jobs I am working now got me very rusty....

Can attest to the T4’15 still being greatly competitive. I TQ’d all 3 rounds in my group and finished 3rd overall in the A-main against newer cars like the T4’21 and MTC2

Weird. I've been trying to sell my XRay T4 '17 for a while now, at what I thought was an insane bargain, but I'm getting no bites. Maybe racers just feel like they want/need the newest and latest greatest.

I never felt like my T4 17 is a vintage car but it is on rails. That can still be very competitive if only I was a better driver.

Owning one, and continue to race with it is one thing. Buying an used chassis now is a different story. If a T4 2020 sell for $350, 2019 $300, 2018 $275, 2017 $250.... etc. Depends how much you wanted your 17 for. Just a little more money to get a relatively newer used car makes sense.

Yep, I’m under market value. I raced with it one time...my first and only USGT race. Made the A-Main and my battery tape failed. In other words, like the thread has suggested, older chassis are right close to the newest/latest/greatest.

RCLab 7even GT3 mixed it up solid pre covid in the UK at a large indoor high grip carpet track, running 17.5t spec class first time TC myself in over 16yrs at the time and finished 4th in the B, myself and the car had no right to be with the competition there haha.
