Low County RC - April 2023
Took 1st Pro2 in 17.5 - it was better but still a bit loose. Looking forward to running it at Barceloneta in 2 weeks!
The 21.5 USGT RS4 Rally was on the money - spanked the field with it.
Took 1st in Eurotruck too, but that doesn't count for this thread...

I'm having somewhat of a problem finding the fast set-up for the HPI Pro 4.
(I'll use the Evo 5 as a set-up model for the HPI Pro 4)

(Modeling the Set-up of the Tamiya Evolution 5) - It Worked. I somewhat copied the Set-up of the Tamiya Evolution 5 (Roll-Center Adjustment) on the Pro 4 - it Worked. The Pro 4 (with 6.5 Brushless Motor) is now Faster - Better Chassis Balance. It handles similarly to the Tamiya Evolution 5 . A few Spring changes should finish the trick. . .(?)

Question for all the vintage racers…how do old ball diffs hold up to modern motors?
#1507

They hold up fine, no problems.
I run an Xray T1 FK04 (front spool, rear diff on rubber) and FK05 (front and rear diff, on foams so loads of grip) with a 6.0T Surpass and a 10.5T LRP (boosted), the diffs hold up fine. I'd say after 4-5 long track days the rear diff starts to feel a bit crunchy so a rebuild is needed, the front I run very tight so it holds for longer.

why run a front spool on tc?
#1509

It's how they're run for the last 15 years I'd say. Feels very similar to a tight front diff, and there's no maintenance. It just works well with rubber tires.
Don't reccomend running it with foams, as it really kills the plastic driveshaft blades.

Spool with full time 4wd or with a oneway? Im surprised…would have thought a spool would kill front tires quickly. Shows how long i havent raced tc lol.
#1511

For really long! Even longer than I have
Yes, with full time 4WD. Front is just a spool and it came as standard already with the T1 FK05 (via the Multidiff), and the rear diff was a ball diff. Since the 2010s I'd say the ball diffs got replaced by oil-filled gear diffs, but a front spool is still standard to this day.
When I started racing in 2010-ish, one-way was already a rare sight. I raced a T1 FK04 back then (which I obviously got used) with a really tight front diff, and then my second car was a T3 2012 which came with a spool and gear diff as standard.
Lately I rebuilt that car (alongside another T1 FK05 which I later got) and I'm really enjoying driving it, but now with a spool (from a T1 FK05) - works really good, and it's a much more natural way of driving for me (as 1/8 nitro GT is my main class, which runs a very tight front diff and a looser rear).
