Default Connecting ESC to Vintage Non-BEC Receiver

I am looking to connect an old Tekin 411 G2 speed control to an even older Ko-Propo receiver that doesn't have BEC and has a separate plug for the receiver battery/power. Can I just remove the positive and negative leads from the ESC plug and stick them in the plug for the receiver battery? Or do I need to wire the power through the original power switch that was used with the mechanical speed control (which has a small circuit on it which I assume is to regulate the volatge)? Originally the power was being fed from the car battery, to the power switch, and then to the receiver.

Thank you.
