Raced 5th scale for the first time at the Rendon track in the second SWCS race of the season. Had five guys to show up and race in the class. Had at least 4 cars on the track in any given qualifier (someone each round had some small issue to keep them off the track). Everyone, including fellow racers and spectators, had fun either running or watching these behemoths lumber around the track. Mains are on Sunday and already all participants can't race till the next Rendon race to run!!

Here is a pic of the Texas 5. We hope more will join us down the road but we are the core, the originals that laid it down in Texas at the Rendon track with the 5th scale cars. See you next Rendon race.

I have a couple of questions:
#1. Can I run the Porsche body in this class? (Want some diversity)

#2. I want to run 2wd so are you saying that I have to buy a different engine?

You can run the shorter 510mm car. Please see the following that was in the very first post of this thread:

Like the West Coast guys, 2wd and 4wd cars will be allowed to run together if there are not enough to split them apart. When running them together, 2wd cars cannot run an engine any bigger than 23/24cc and the 4wd cars cannot run an engine any bigger than 26/27cc. As tested by the racers on the West Coast, this levels to playing field between the cars.

So, if your 2wd is running a bigger engine, yes, you will have to change it for the Spec class. And, if the engine is modified, yes, you will have to change it to a stock one for the spec class. However, if you want to run a bigger or modified engine, you can run it in the STC or GT classes in which you will be the only one running at the moment (those classes are for the ones that like to modify their cars). For the Spec class, there will be no exceptions to the rules that were established in the first post of this thread.

I read the rules, just getting clarity about the bodies first because the BMWs and Porsches run the ALMS in the same GT-2 class and didn't consider it a "GT" car as I would, say a Mclaren GT. I was more interested in the 2wd because of the challenge like the old 2wd 235mm class. Now, I need to source out a 23/24cc motor.

We are not really sweating the bodies right now because there aren't that many of us running at the moment. We have two sedans (Aaron and I) and three coupes (Marquell, Brent, and Sam). And, for the 510mm (short) chassis, the Porsche 911 body is really the only body available for it. The "GT" term is what the West Coast guys use to separate 2-door coupe bodies from the 4-door sedan bodies.

Juan,

FG offers a Mini Cooper body for the 510mm chassis. I hope the Mini Cooper body will be able to run in the SSC (Spec Sportsline Car) Class in the future when there are more 1/5 scale racer. I would hate to have to buy a $150 Porsche body + $40 in body mounts to race in the SSC class.

If this is the body you want to run, we won't have an issue with it for now. We just need for the engine, pipe, brakes, and diff(s) to be all stock. If not, you and Thunderbunny can run in the GT/STC class. We just need for you to show up and run it.

Car on the way! As per the rules, I'm looking for 40 shore tires and GRP seems to only carry "S"series and "P" series tires. Called dave's and all he carries is GRP. Can someone point me in the right direction? Gracias!

The S/P 3s are going to be approximately the equivalent to 40 shore. I will get in a pair of each soon and test them with my durometer. If you go the PMT tire route, they list the shores of their tires in the description on their website.
