I would like to welcome ALL TRANS-AM RACERS to one of the, if not the largest TA races in the country. We plan on setting a new bar for outdoor TA racing on asphalt. This year we hope to surpass last years event in every way.

The MCC 09' is our premier on-road race of the year. It sets the tone for the indoor season and ULTIMATE bragging rights as well as some of the best trophies around. Ive been told that believe it or not some guys who dont care about trophies, would love to have one of these.....Dirla will testify to that.

But its not all about trophies. We have FREE food for the racers and any racers travelling gets discounted, some even FREE...free food and racing, nice day of fun. We will also have the best competition anywhere looking to claim top prize.

Also instead of only one champion, our race is designed to all divisions of skill level. There will be 28 awards presented at the MCC. 1st-3rd in Expert TA, Sportsman TA and TC. 1st-5th in Jr. TA. 1st-3rd for points series champions (TA, TC & JR). hey guys I got an email and post from my race director concerning one of our local racers in VTA....

Posted: Tue Sep 08, 2009 8:32 am Post subject: Fund Raiser for Tim Buchanan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of you know Tim Buchanan. He raced T/A with us all last year. Yesterday, an arsonist burned down his auto shop. He lost all his tools and a pair of motorcycles.

We are going to help him out. Every dime from the 2009 MCC will be given to Tim to help him rebuild his business.

If ever you needed a good excuse to come racing this is it. Great trophies, free food, lots of fun, and all for a good cause... to give a hand to a fellow racer.

See you on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at the Music City Championship.
......

you are one of the nicest guys around Tim Moore...I told him about this and he was lost for words...

little info on Tim B....I know Tim very well and he is a great guy..he is a family man with wife and kids...he hasnt been able to come out and race as much due to finally getting his bodyshop up and running...he invested everything into it...once he got that going, he went out and bought a home in Madison...been there for almost a year...he and his family will really be needing as much help as possible....me and Tim will be talking to our churches this week...if you can help please do....

thanks again Tim Moore for your heart...I will talk to HPI as well today

Default Music City Championship 2009

just so everyone is clear on the rules for VTA/expert class for the MCC 09'....this is the national rules as posted by the USVTA...if you are running "EXPERT" class you will need to follow these rules to the letter... cya Sunday at the MUSIC CITY CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

Rules updated 3.11.09. All rules subject to change and expansion should need arise.

Complete downloadable and printable 2009 Rulebook is available in PDF format here. It is highly suggested that all indoor carpet tracks use these rules exactly as they are written with no deviations. Please try to keep it consistent and fair for everyone who may attend your track from around the country.

Trans Am Class Rules and Specifications

Body Specifications:
Late '60s to early '70s American pony car Vintage Trans-Am bodies only.

Bolink part numbers:
BL2262 '68 Chevrolet Camaro
BL2263 '65 Ford Mustang

HPI part numbers:
17510 - 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda
17519 - 1966 Ford Mustang GT
17508 - 1965 Ford Shelby GT-350
7494 - 1968 Chevrolet Camaro

Parma part numbers:
10143 - 1969 Z28 Camaro
10141 - 1970 Boss Mustang
10113 - 1970 'Cuda

Pegasus Hobbies part numbers:
PGH4001 - 1970 Camaro SS
PGH4002 - 1970 'Cuda
PGH4003 - 1970 Mustang

Body provided deck lid spoilers allowed (not wings). No additional skirts or raised/extended wings or air control surfaces allowed. Body must be trimmed at body trim lines. Full rear bumper required. It is highly preferred that bodies are detailed in race type livery in period-correct paint schemes. Fluorescent colors, wild graphics, chromes and non-period correct paint schemes are frowned upon. All cars must have a number on the hood, both doors and trunklid. Wheel covers of any type are NOT allowed.

Tire & Wheel Specifications:
The only tires allowed are HPI tire part #4793 front and #4797 rear, using stock tire inserts provided with tire and any HPI Vintage wheels designed to fit these tires. Five or Eight spoke wheels available in various colors. 0mm offset front wheels and 6mm offset rear wheels are intended for 26mm width fronts and 31mm width rear tires. 8-spoke Vintage wheels from #3805 through #3814, 5-spoke Vintage wheels from #3815 through #3822 and Vintage stock car wheels from #3854 through #3860 are all legal wheels.

Grinding of tire tread is NOT permitted. Sanding of mold seam to remove seam is allowed. HPI Vintage Slicks are not allowed. Tire traction compounds are at the discretion of the track. No other altering, changing or softening of the tire is allowed. No "double stuffing" of foam inserts allowed—only single stock vintage tire inserts are allowed.

Chassis Specification:
Four Wheel Drive touring car chassis only. Any era or brand 4wd chassis is allowed. An Excel spreadsheet gear ratio and final drive ratio calculator for most touring car chassis is available here.

Motor Specifications:
Option 1: 27-turn ROAR stock motor: No FDR limit, bearings are not allowed.

Option 2: 17.5 brushless: Motor timing advance is allowed. 12.5 mm rotor diameter maximum (no "tuning" rotors are allowed).

Option 3: 21.5 brushless with 2C LiPo: Novak SS21.5 Pro brushless motor (pn:3421) ONLY combined with any ROAR-approved hard-cased 2C 7.4v LiPo pack up to and including 5000 mAh capacity. Novak motor is the ONLY motor allowed at this time, because there are no ROAR mandates or restrictions for the 21.5 brushless motors. All house track rules regarding LiPo usage apply. Final drive ratio is to not exceed 4.2. Motor timing advance is allowed. 12.5 mm rotor diameter maximum (no "tuning" rotors are allowed).

Suggested gearing FDR recommendations:

27t brushed/4-cell: 5.4 - 5.7 FDR
17.5 brushless/4-cell: 3.5 - 3.7 FDR
21.5 brushless/LiPo: 4.2 - 4.6 FDR
Tracks should not dictate which motor combination a racer should choose. All three motor/battery combos have been tested to compete evenly against one another in competition with great success. If any one power choice shows a definitive advantage at a certain track, it is up to the race management to even the racing out via suggested gearing changes.

Battery Specifications:
4 cell NiCd or NiMh batteries, 4600 mAh limit
2 cell ROAR-approved LiPo hard cased, 5000 mAh limit (21.5 brushless motor option ONLY)

Ride Height Specification:
Minimum ride height is 5mm.

Weight Specification:
Minimum 1450g in race-ready trim

Race Specification:
- 5 minute qualifiers
- 8 minute mains
- Absolutely NO IFMAR-type starts. All heats and mains should be straight-up starts, with random sorts for each heat. Non random sorts should shuffle starting order for each heat.

Optional Main Variations:
- 12-20 car A-mains, depending on car counts.
- Invert qualifying order based on random hat pull (top 6-10 cars).
- "LeMans" type starts where all cars are lined up on an angle to the racing line in order.
- Run track in reverse rotation for mains.
- Rolling starts

MOST IMPORTANTLY: If it's not in the rules, and does not encompass the spirit of slower, controlled racing with realistic looking cars, consider it illegal. This is called the "Spirit of VTA" Rule. The class is based on slower, equal playing field competition with less traction, minimal aerodynamic aids and mostly older carpet racing technology. The final objective is close, fair, wheel-to-wheel racing for all. All decisions of the race promoter or track owner are final.

Default MUSIC CITY CHAMPIONSHIP 2009(MCC 09')

here is the race report for the MCC 09'..more pics to come

Sunday September 27,2009...The Music City Championship

Well here we are a year later....for the MCC 09'...last year was as great of racing anywhere you could find...this year was even better.

After having mother nature soak and flood our area and beyond for 2 weeks...the idea of having a huge outdoor race seemed a little bleek at times. Alot of guys that were coming from out of town as well as locals didnt feel like it was going to happen. Most of the races in the region got cancelled. So why would we be any different?....thats easy to answer, Tim Moore is spot on when it comes to the weather. He hasnt been wrong all summer, if he says its not going to rain...we are racing!...mid 70's and not a cloud in the sky.....you the man Tim

Before we get into the racing, I would like to thanks some people that made this possible....
Tim Moore/Risk Sciences
Collin C./HPI
Bobby Mills/Hobby Lobby
Robert Dirla/Thunder RC
Doug & Rob/USVTA
Tommy/Slot Spot
Byran & Brain/White House Hobbies
Eric Whiteside/The Track at Harbor Hobbies
Chris Cooper/Cooper Motorsports
Jim and Nicks BBQ
Kent Ball/SNOOPY

and most important the 40+ racers and their families for coming out and making this an extra special event!!!!!! also for donating the $500+ to help local racer Tim Buchannon re-build his business..AWESOME JOB!!!!

We did some awards at the beginning of the day.

Bobby Mills-adult concourse
Ebonique"Baby"-jr concourse and fastest female
Robert Dirla-driver of the year

LETS DO SOME RACING!!!!

The layout was very different than anything we had all summer, with alot of flow and technical sections. No complaints from any drivers. With the sun warming the track nicely, the traction was beginning to come up really fast. The open practice gave everyone a chance to get setup for what was coming.

Round 1
This was the 1st year we allowed TC to run at the MCC. But we had some good rules to help keep the racing fairly close. We ran a spec tire(Jaco Blues) and 17.5 motors. We had a couple of national level racers on hand to support this race. Eric Anderson(EA), Jason Lutz, and Robert Dirla. We also had our local fast guy as well in Donald"TQ"Martin. Being on the track with such a awesome group of racers was worth the price of entry anyday.

Eric Anderson #6 25 6:00.723 13.620
Donald Martin #4 25 6:19.390 13.803 18.667
Myron Kinnard #1 24 6:01.571 14.038

Next up was the very stacked Sportsman Class in Trans-am. These guys are the ones pushing into Expert/Pro class every race. They improve at every turn and even when they havent raced in awhile, they seem to get right back on the "horse" and on pace. We ran two heats of Sportsman

Eddie Leonard #4 22 6:00.049 15.437
Cornbread #3 22 6:11.347 15.659 11.298
Alex Barrett #1 20 6:14.291 16.389

Bobby Mills #5 21 6:01.142 15.817
Tommy Ussery #2 21 6:03.475 16.159 2.333
W.W. #3 21 6:14.262 16.318 13.120

Up next was a very important class of Adult Rookies(A/B), this class had alot of 1st timers to rc racing. It also had the returning MCC 08' JR TA champ in Hayden. He stepped up to the rookie class after winning the Jr division last year.

Ken Illig #2 19 6:13.874 17.818
TJ Hardison #4 17 6:29.155 18.571
Jake Illig #1 13 6:04.334 19.165

Jason Burks #2 21 6:01.649 16.519
Raheen Demarest #3 18 6:14.046 17.645
Timothy Buchanan #4 16 5:53.071 19.511

We decided to have an official USVTA class that allowed anyone from across the country to race with the fastest guys in the region. We decided since some of the guys that ran in this class DID NOT have adv.timing esc's to have a "gentlemen" rule to not run the adv. setting on the esc's. You wasnt pentalized if you didnt run them. Returning TA champ "BATTMAN" set TQ, with Darryl and Donald only a lap down

Myron Kinnard #1 24 6:14.622 14.827
Darryl Binger #5 23 6:03.866 15.328
Donald Martin #3 23 6:04.064 15.143 0.198

The all important Jr TA Championship that has had the best battle out of any racing this year. Rather it was for the "Belt", or points..Daniel and Yung aka Spidey, was set to do battle one more time for all the marbles.

Daniel #4 16 5:19.945 18.020
Yung-Spidey #3 13 5:03.107 19.258
Tomlin #6 13 5:18.483 22.774 15.376

Round 2
For TCR we saw a change in the leader board, with EA out and Dirla taking it home. This setup some very tight positions to get into. Making a mistake with this bunch of racers sent you to the back of the line. And unless someone else made a mistake you pretty much stayed in the back.

Robert Dirla #4 25 6:04.735 13.994
Donald Martin #2 25 6:14.555 13.986 9.820
Myron Kinnard #3 24 6:03.615 14.220

For rd2 we decided to combine the A/B of Sportsman to save a little time. This was a good thing giving the fact that it made everyone very catious of each other on the track. No run away victor here. If you wanted this championship you had to earn it.

Eddie Leonard #1 23 6:08.253 15.083
Cornbread #2 23 6:11.493 15.255 3.240
Tim Moore #9 21 6:05.998 15.934

We did the same for the A/B rookie class. These guys are very hungry to get that "W" and was willing to fight tooth and nail to get it. Rookies or not the racing was close and anybodies race to win.

Jason Burks #1 21 6:06.252 16.200
Hayden Pirrera #6 21 6:15.693 16.650 9.441
Raheen Demarest #3 19 6:07.976 17.006

For the Expert class,USVTA, it seems that the 2008 Champion had things going his way with another win and re-setting TQ again. Only this time Jason stepped up to put a little pressure on the Battman to challenge him for the crown.

Myron Kinnard #1 24 6:07.534 14.922
Jason Graham #5 24 6:11.443 14.976 3.909
Donald Martin #3 23 6:00.329 14.872

JR TA showed why they are the future of Trans-am...Daniel and Spidey danced back and forward for 5 mins. Swapping the lead several times to finish on the same lap..

Daniel #1 16 5:03.469 18.073
Yung-Spidey #2 16 5:07.124 17.997 3.655
Tomlin #3 13 5:08.045 21.785

Round 3
This is where the we all put it all in the same bucket. No time to pull punches. Its now or never to get that all important starting position. After sitting in 3rd all day I thought that my spot was pretty sucure. But after EA layed down a 26 lapper and showed why he is one of the best RC racers in the country. It was written in stone at that point.

1. Eric Anderson 26 6:02.680 3 1
2. Robert Dirla 25 6:04.735 2 1
3. Jason Lutz 25 6:07.692 3 2 2.957

Here is where the racing the 2.4 race really showed in some of the top guys. Brandon Black of Team Ambush made an awesome run to the top 3 after starting 9th. A little extra track time goes a long way. We also got to see team mates Cornbread and Eddie get the top 2 spots with only .766 of seperation...now thats tight racing.

1. Cornbread 23 6:07.487 3 1
2. Eddie Leonard 23 6:08.253 2 1 0.766
3. Brandon Black 22 6:12.306 3 2

Rookie TA was set to see who would make the move to Sportsman. Jason Burks with his 1st time out with a TA car set the bar pretty high with a lap over past Jr TA champ Hayden. This made for our Sportsman class to be aware of some rookies taking aim at the sportsman title.

1. Jason Burks 22 6:07.964 3 1
2. Hayden Pirrera 21 6:15.693 2 2
3. Raheen Demarest 19 6:07.976 2 3

Expert didnt disappoint. Doanld Martin lived up to the nickname "TQ" by pulling a 24/6:02 to finally pull the top spot from the Battman. Rodney Barrett also pulled a very close 2nd position with a 24/6:07.2 to my 24/6:07.5...Time to see what you can do.

1. Donald Martin 24 6:02.671 3 1
2. Rodney Barrett 24 6:07.296 3 2 4.625
3. Myron Kinnard 24 6:07.534 2 1 4.863

Jr TA is still the race to watch. These kids try very hard to have fun and win. Every race is like the championship. None of them ever see defeat, its all victory in finishing what we start.

1. Daniel 16 5:01.238 3 1
2. Yung-Spidey 16 5:07.124 2 2 5.886
3. Tomlin 14 5:18.921 3 3

MAINS......

After setting the bar really high, EA took control over the fastest class of the day. He only gave up the lead a couple of times to Donald Martin. After some very impressive driving by the hungry field of drivers, the smoke had started to clear. At the 5:30 mark we saw a Robert Dirla provide why he is one of the top guys around on any given day or track. Diving around and under to challenge the Battman for the final top 3 spot. But the Battman wasnt giving in that easy and finished in a solid 3rd behind Jason Lutz and Champion Eric "EA" Anderson...

Eric Anderson #1 27 6:04.717 13.372
Jason Lutz #3 26 6:02.027 13.557
Myron Kinnard #5 26 6:06.509 13.869 4.482

Sportsman Trans-am is, and always will be the biggest class of racers with the same skill level. Anytime you have your top 3 on the same lap after a 8min battle, you know you have seen the best TA has to offer. Its what the class is about, close door-to-door racing. Jason Burks stepped up to sportsman, to race with the guys on his level. He finish on lap 29 with 3rd place qualifier Brandon Black. Cornbread(TQ) and team mate Eddie made Bread Crew a 1/2 finish with Bobby Mills pulling in 3rd

Cornbread #1 30 8:07.122 16.119
Eddie Leonard #2 30 8:11.470 15.621 4.348
Bobby Mills #4 30 8:14.428 15.929 7.306

Rookie TA was a great race as well, more of the position fighting to place in the middle of the pack. Hayden jumped up to TQ position after Jason Burks went to Sportsman. With another year of racing under his belt, Hayden repeated as Champion, only this time it was the Rookie division he conquered. New comer and 1st timmer Raheen pulled into 2nd over Jake whom raced another 1st timmer TJ to the line, turn for turn.

Hayden Pirrera #1 27 8:17.346 17.470
Raheen Demarest #2 25 8:13.077 18.009
Jake Illig #7 24 8:10.533 18.005

EXPERT/USVTA/VTA/PRO TRANS-AM was the class to show everyone the best racers of the day. With a grid of racers that wanted so bad that anything was possible. Returning Expert Champion, Battman was ready to defend his title against all comers. The Summer Series had alot of guys stepping up every race to get ready for this event. Donald "TQ" was ready for his 1st Trophy win in TA, as well as every other racer. With the Lemans start ready to go the horn sounded and on turn 1 lap 1, we had a pile up of cars. This allowed Jason to take the lead and he never looked back. He went from 4th to 1st and took the Championship home. It was an exciting race and a real test of skill to try and get back into position. But with the level of racers here and the hunger they had. Getting to the front of the line was almost impossible for any driver. The line of cars seemed like a train on a track at times. This is what we came for and it didnt disapoint ..

Jason Graham #4 31 8:00.614 15.197
Donald Martin #1 31 8:13.143 15.619 12.529
Rodney Barrett #2 30 8:04.757 15.846

JR TA is the cornerstone to all racing in this class. Daniel and Spidey put all the years worth of racing and battling on the line one more time. The end result was a very strong pull by Daniel to get out front without havent to get caught up in any wrecks. And thats what he did, which allowed him to get out to 1st and stay there for the entire race. Spidey sat in a solid 2nd and Baby and Tomlin went to war for that 3rd place with Baby knocking him down to 4th.

Daniel #1 20 6:09.761 17.607
Yung-Spidey #2 19 6:08.934 17.561
Baby #4 14 6:15.517 22.397

In closing, this has got to be the most exciting Trans-am racing Ive ever been to. Thats not taking away from the Nats,BTH,Top Gun, GA STATE, or any other TA race. This race shows that with Trans-am EVERYONE can have a chance to shine. It also shows that this area can have big name races and be supported locally. I really feel bad for the guys that missed this event. To the true TA lovers and racers, you missed out on a chance of a lifetime. For those that want to really test themselves against a true field of TA racers, you really missed out. To have 2 years in a row of 40+ racers and to have only 2 outta towners.(Brian Smith 08, Jason Lutz 09) is proof that we are ready for the National stage.
