At the recent BRCA nationals Team eXpress UK have had a fairly good weekend at the wet Bedworth track. Round 1 was wet except for the top heat so they had a dry track (i was in the heat before this and it was damp ). Round 2 was dry for 3 heats but as i was in heat 5 it was damp again . Round 3 was a mixture, damp and dry patches, mainly damp so wets had to be run. Through out this run the track got dry so it was very annoying . For the top heat it was still damp but for only 1 or 2 corners so they had a nice dry track.........then it started to rain at about 4:30secs into their run. They all improved. I managed to qualify 19th, car felt terrible but as i had been up the week before with the car practicing in the dry i knew it would be fast. Chris Leighton qualified 17th, again was in the same qualifing heat as me so we had the short end of the stick all day...Russ Williams TQ'd. His car looked to be mega consistant in wet and dry. During the finals i finished 6th in the first final. Just about 30secs to the start it started raining..we were all on dry tyres (except for 1 or 2 who got lucky) so it was interesting. I opted to not run in the second final as this was one of the rounds i could drop and i also didn't want to risk the electrics again. Chris finishes 3rd & 3rd to finish 2nd overall in the B (12th). Russ from my memory won the 1st A final but got a penalty for turning up to the grid late (even though about 3 other cars turned up a few seconds later than him and they didn't get a penalty ) so he finished 4th in the very wet conditions. In the second final Russ got away good put coming onto the straight he got collected and went back to 9th. He worked his way back up all the way to 4th then on the last lap coming down the straight he managed to get 3rd by 0.01 of a second
At the Mod/Stock national at Snetterton which is a very fast layout the eXpress team managed to qualify 3rd Rob West, 4th Gavin Clinch, 7th Jon Winter, 9th Andrew Twigger. In the finals the team finished 3rd Rob West, 5th Jon Winter, 6th Andrew Twigger and 7th Gavin Clinch.
The next national for the 27t/Mod group is at West London. Fast but also technical and staying on line is extremely important, stray off line and your on dust. Next 19t national for me is at Bedworth again in 2 weeks for the BRCA juniors finals then i'm at Wrexham 2 weeks after that which is tight and technical with a not so straight back straight. In between those up and coming races i go to West London BTCC for practice before the KOGP in August and i then go to Cotswolds (my local track) in between the Juniors and Wrexham. My month is extremely full and with the added pressure of now starting my Plumbing apprenticeship it should be exciting
