Imjonah, if John didn't answer your question, you probably didn't ask what you were thinking about. I'd hate for you to imply that most matchers produce fake numbers, because that is not the case. You imply that you don't have the equipment to test the true parameters of a cell, since you're wondering how to test a battery without the equipment. If you don't have the equipment, then how can you tell if a matcher is lying?

There are so many variables when checking batteries that there is a good chance that your numbers will be different than what a matcher provides. What could be the cause of the discrepency? Old equipment could be an issue. How are the contacts on your battery box? Are you using the same matching equipment? What battery charge rate are you using? How long do you let the battery sit between charging and discharging? What is the temperature and humidity of the test environment? Does it stay constant during the cycle, or does it vary? How about the airflow in the room? Do you blowing across the cells? Does the velocity of the air change throughout the cycle, i.e is it just a breeze entering the room? Have you had any runs on the batteries since you bought them?

The bottom line is that you can't necessarily compare numbers from matcher to matcher. I think John will also agree with this, different matchers will do different things to their test environment, and this will in turn affect the test results. For example, you cannot compare Reedy's Realtime cells to Fusion's cells because the voltage measurement parameters are competely different! This is not to say that one is right and one is wrong, they just do things differently. Likewise, Orion's numbers are not comparable. What really matters is that there is consistency in the matching processes of a given brand, and this is an issue of product control. I like fusion's products along with a few other matchers, and I hate it when people make broad negative generalizations such as yours.

Since it seems like you want to be really technical about your other question, here is the answer. There is really no equation converting battery matching parameters into acceleration, so what John was implying was using a sort of acid test to determine the relative punch of two batteries. There is a theoretical truth that lower IR battery will have more punch than a higher IR battery, ALL ELSE EQUAL. That means that it will reach the end of the straightaway quicker from a dead stop. All else equal, a battery with higher voltage throughout a discharge cycle will have higher top speed, and also reach the end of the straightaway earlier. But, which is better, the battery with higher average voltage and lower IR, or vice versa? There is no equation for that. Then it becomes a question of looking at the powerband of the given motor. For some motors and some tracks , one battery will work better than the other.

I source out my batteries to be Matched by Fusion for my company, Team br00d Racing. I have randomly checked cells from them on my turbomatchers......and everything always check out fine.

And to answer your question.....there really is no way for anyone to answer that. There are simply TOO many variables, you will never get an answer from that even from Danny at SMC or Mike Reedy at AE.......

Simple comparison....go to a real engine builder with your real car....ask him the same question if you would add another 50 HP to your car. I am sure he can give you some BS answer, but any guy with a clue is going to give you the same type of answer John did. And likewise, look in a jegs catalog at any type of engine performance part, they will all say adds 50hp or whatever.....you won't see any say, add 2.5 meters per second to your 0-60 distance...

If you want to test the cells, simply borrow someones 1.15 and cycle them on a GFX(borrow one if you need to)....then cycle some 1.17s....you will see the difference on the charger if the numbers are correct(try to get two batteries around the same age that have been properly cared for). Once you SEE the numbers for yourself, its basic electronics at that point.

Congrats to Furman, he is definatly a nice guy and a great representative for your company. I know how he felt the first day, I had the same kind of luck, but he showed his caliber and battled back in a big way during Saturdays qualifying.

Butter- Nice to meet you, and put a name with a face. See ya around.

Yeah, the glitching killed my Friday and my car, lol. The time wrenching sucks, but it's the $40 in parts that hurts, lol. I was heading to the house if Fernando hadn't had the extra radio for me. My first couple runs with it were shaky, you know how it is to just pick up someone's radio for the first time to qualify with it. It was all in all a fun weekend. Did all of you guys' property down in FL end up OK from the storm?
