Default Snowbirds

Gary,

Just wanted to thank you for supplying me with excellant packs for the Birds. Starting on the pole in the mains, I jumped out to an early lead for the first 4 laps, only to get punted, landing on my roof and dropped back to 7th. About 20 laps later I worked my way back up to 1st. On lap 38 someone decided to park their car between turns 1 and 2 and I t-boned his azz, leaving me at a dead stop with my nose against the drivers door of his car. When I saw that the turn marshalls weren't going to be able to get to me for a while, I just squeezed the trigger and bulldozed the blocked car out of the way and went on to take the win in the ever prestigious Oval 4 cell stock G main. That kind of move would generally kill a pack, but the Surge cells didn't seem to be bothered by it. I started on 4.7's and 8's and ended on 9's and 0's.

Congrats to my buddy Lawson on his solid runs. Just wish he would have brought that rope he was talking about, so I could have qualified a little higher.

Congrats to Frank Ulbrik as well. It was nice meeting you and your brothers. I think your brother Chris was the man to beat in stock, but unfortunately he didn't get a clean run in the A.

Barry

well, I got my Surge motor and ran it on Sunday...and it is basically a rocket compared to my old motor...clearing (and sometimes landing on the flat) of jumps I never dreamed of before...I had some problems with it overheating on me after about 3 and a half or 4 minutes in my T4. It's geared the same as everyone elses Monster motors, so I don't think its that....maybe my gear mesh is a hair too tight, I'll have to play with it and see if I can't get it to run 5 mins without getting too hot.

Another question, what brush should I be using to rebuild with? And what springs? I'm running this offroad in a T4. I'd like to keep it as much like it is as possible. Thanks

If it still seemed pretty fast I would go down at least one tooth to keep it from getting too hot. Every moter is different (even amont the same brand) and you have to gear for that particular motors power band. I had to gear my Surge monster one tooth lower than my EA monsters in sedan but they were still FAST.

I believe they are built with 767's. You can rubuild with 767 or you can pick up and "F" brush and try them. You may want to put a vertical slot in the "F" brush and possibly spring just a tad lower than what you have with the 767's.

I break-in 767's for 200 seconds at 2 volts. With the "F" brush I have been doing 2-3 200 second cycles at 2 volts and letting the motor cool between cycles.
