So..after a few little niggles with my FR-1 21.5, a new sensor board seems to have cured it. Last weeks State Champs was a good weekend, the motor was a jet and stayed very cool. Ambient temps around 20 deg C. Motor timing set at 52 deg, FDR 3.68, and never saw motor temps above 45 deg C all day after 6 min runs.
Very impressed how cool these motors run when being pushed hard.

What's a good starting FDR for USGT / 21.5TC running a V1 21.5 w/ultra high torque rotor?

Trying to determine if I need additional pinion gears

In my experience there is no 'magical' FDR for any car/motor combo. It really depends on how well tuned your motor is to its true sweet spot. You should contact Rotor Ron and send your motor in, have it put on the dyno and find that sweet spot. Instructions come back with your motor to help you find your gearing. check it out on facebook at www.facebook.com/TheRotorRon

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.

I know no one can tell me what the sweet spot is. That's why I was askin for a starting point. Not the sweet spot. I just didn't want to be so far amoff I cooked my motor on the first run.

Correct but FDR goes hand in hand with your motor timing setting. If the motor timing is set to its sweet spot, FDR is soo much easier to find.

once the motor is set to optimum then you leave it and just mess with gearing depending on the track.

I'm gonna send my motor to Ron to work on, I have a bad sensor board, one of my phases is 7 deg off.

Well normally the manufacturers release motors closer to the start of the onroad season, so another month of so and we should start seeing new motors, or at least thats how it has been.

Any idea when these are going to be Roar legal? Be curious to see how the stator resistance is compared to the V1/V2
