I checked the rotor shimming, and it looked fine. I took out 1 tiny shim from both sides and made sure the rotor wasn't touching the sensor board... and it made no difference. Geared up 1 tooth, no difference... geared down one tooth... no difference.

perplexed!

What a silly rule (fdr limit). All that will do is force people to have a rotor/motor that puts their sweet spot for torque/rpm at 4.0. If you have a higher torque motor, you wont be able to gear tall enough to get the motor to perform. This will simply increase racing costs for the racers.... but I digress.

You will probably be best using the 12.3 BP rotor. If running the apex2, I would probably NOT be running the HT stator either, as prime gearing with the BP rotor would probably be around 3.7. I think the HRPM stator, and 12.3 BP rotor would be perfect. This should put your optimal gearing window closer to 4.0, maybe even 4.1. (this is just a guess from the bench)

Phone: 269-483-0200, right from Fantom's website. Just called the number, and it seems to be working fine.

ROAR has allowed the D3.5 based motor to be legal until May 2014. However you'll need to contact the IIC to see if they are allowing it.

Actually its the last day of March 2014. And the IIC posted that they are NOT allowing any D3.5 motors for this years race.

I just ran my new Apex V2 (HT/HT) at hobby stop in Toledo. The layout was not very flowing at all. Smaller track, with average mid to low 9 second laps. With a FDR of 3.72 and just less then 55 degrees timing on the end bell it was coming off at 155-160 degrees. The track did not have a full straight, and brakes were being used a bunch. The car was fast, but faded. Do I need to throw more pinion on it, or take timing out?

I would say take timing out especially if you have no straights.

I feel you are correct. Also, has anybody tried RPM stator/HT rotor on a carpet track? I am guessing most carpet tracks (in the US), are not big enough to really benefit from that combo, but heard it rocks outdoors on the larger asphalt tracks. If you have tried it on carpet, how was it, and how was it set up?

I tried it on ours in Dallas. 96x40 carpet. I had it geared everywhere and it just didn't compare to the HT/HT combo. It seems like you said that a super long straight or possibly even a nice flowing track with out too many hard turns it might be the way to go. Last I had it geared at a 3.8 and it seemed fast on the straight as would think but the low end was a dog. The temp surprisingly was low. About 140 after 6 min. In order to get the low end it needed to be geared closer to 4.0 and them the straight speed was not impressive. Again temp was still low. I geared my HT/HT at a 3.8 and it is a rocket out of the corners and flys down the straight. And it also came off at 135*.
