Hey, Chris.

Yes, I've been registered since the start of the month, and my name appears on the list on the cleveland carpet racing website. This will be my first trip to the Gate, and am looking forward to running.

I've heard some great things about this race, and with a sign up of 200 racers, it promises to be a great time.

Fellow Hurricane racers:

Here is a theoretical question for you.
If say, an Oval racer wants to dip into road course, can you give a list of a decent starting package? I currently have a decent Futaba 3PJ PCM radio with RX's and Chargers/batts/tools etc. What im looking for is what 1/10 car is considered "the" car to beat today? Where could I pick this up and for how much? What tires are the best? Where is the majority of exp. racers, stock or 19t? Foam or Rubber? Etc.. You know what im looking for!
Also, to maybe slowly break into the series, what is the best 1/12th scale car?

Thanks in advance

Neil.....Well what car you are looking to get depends on what class of racing you are going to be racing in. If you are going to be racing Foam tires where it is the most competitive class weather its 19t or stock I would suggest going with the X-ray FK05 or Corally RDX US carpet spec kit. The Corally is the more complete of the two kits as it comes with a spring kit and extra goodies. I think they both run about 400 bucks. If you are looking to race rubber tires....then you have you pick of all the cars out there.....Tamiya, Schumacher, X-ray, Corally, HPI, Associated and Losi. Other then the car you need the normal electronics and you are good to go. Foam tires mostly Cyan and Magenta tires are raced for rubber its Take Off27's at most tracks.

For a 12th scale car you cant beat what you get with the Associated 12L4. It’s the best car for the money.....The CRC T-force is a good car or if you want a link car go with the Speedmerchant or the CRC 3.2r. If there is anything more you need info on just ask.

I would think Id go with 19t to start, and probably foams, as I dont like the whole sliding/drifting thing on rubber.
What are Takeoff 27's?
Is the Xray 05 a graphite chassis? Any standard (in fast racers minds) options that usually get upgraded? Such as on an oval, the standard assoc center shock is usually replaced with an HPI shock.

Neil….All the current top of the line Sedans are graphite plate now. Most all of them come with good shocks right off the bat. Some guys like the Tamiya shocks and put them on just about all the cars out there but its not really needed. As far as racer hop ups most times you need to get a thicker lower chassis and top deck for racing foams. Most cars have tuning option parts like rear hubs, sway bars and castor blocks an such….you may want to get some of these after you get your car so you can fine tune it. There are all kinds of parts that guys think they need but really most kits now come almost ready to race. The biggest thing for most of the cars out there now to get is a P-Dub bumper for the front of the car to help with breakage on the front end parts.

Take Off 27’s are rubber tires that most tracks use as a spec tire.
