R...send it in...we don't charge to replace receiver wires.

RC Corral...it depends on what is wrong with the product. If it has to be replaced it can be a few weeks before you get it back. If it's a simple fix (heatsink came off, new case, wires, etc) we can generally get it back out to you fast. Put my name on it if you need it back in a hurry and it's something that can be easily fixed.

I need help with some heat issues I've been having latey. I am currently running a Mamba Max and a Castle 4600 motor in my Losi XXXT CR. I was running a 18/87 and it was temping aroung 145-160 degrees in a 5 minute heat. During a 10 minute main I got it up to 190 degrees. I tried going down to a 17/87 and it still ran hot. My timing is also set at normal. Should I trying going up on the pinnion instead of going down?

Thanks,
David T.

Drop your timing to low/lowest...doubtful you'll even see a performance decrease and the motor will run cooler. 200F is max temp so even 190F is ok.

make sure to check for freeness in ur drivetrain. i could see temps in my b4 vary just 5-10deg from my normal runs thru course of season. and always it was bearings gettin dirty. sounds dumb, but its true. also check ur slipper and diff for excess slip (or diff slip period). how is ur truck goin on the track. feel wound out too much, spinning wheels too much, its it only windin out at braking zone?

My drivetrain is very free. However the tracks I race on are all blown out 1/8 scale ones where there is alot of wheel spin. The reason I am asking is the 6.5r motor I used to run was never above 140 Degrees.

Coming up on 1 year of running pure brushless and all with my Castle 4600 motor. I ran the MM until the Sidewinder production model came out and now use that speedo for my 2wd buggy and the MM is going into my 4wd buggy.

I have ran about 40 weeks of the 52 weeks this year and the motor has not showed any signs of slowing up. The reliablity has been nothing but great.

Would like to thank Castle Creations and Joe Ford for all the help they have given me. Really appreciate what you guys are doing for this hobby.

Brian

I've got a question about a possible defect in a 4600 motor I just got.

In addition to this 4600, I also have a 5700, 6900, and another 4600 motor in the CM36 size plus a number of the CM20 1/18th motors. All the motors except this new one have armatures that spin freely when the motor is disconnected from anything (and the leads are not touching one another).

This new 4600 is much more difficult to turn and I am wondering about the possibility of an internal short. It is not as hard to turn as when a pair of leads are shorted together, but it is noticeably harder to turn.

I did some tests to try and quantify the "much more difficult".

My test platform was a 27 turn brushed motor with a full stack armature in a mod can set to zero degrees timing and used to drive the CM36 motor via a flexible coupling. Running the brushed motor by itself with no load at 3V, it drew 1.19A. Spinning the "good" 4600 at 3V, the brushed motor drew 1.6A. Spinning a 5700 at 3V, it drew 1.5A. But when I had it spinning the new 4600 at 3V the current draw went up to 2.7A, an indication of much more torque being required to spin this new 4600.

Does this sound like an indication of a problem in the new 4600? I'd rather not try running it and risk burning up the ESC if the motor has an internal short.

Default No ring/tones coming from ESC, plus.....

...my car doesn't move when pressing the throttle.

I programmed the ESC, leaving all defaults set, then put the car on the ground for my first MMax experience. It takes off, nice acceleration, gets about 50 feet away, and stops. I try to give it throttle and it sounded like my gears were stripped. That wasnt the problem, so I turned the car off, turned back on, and no rings/tones. Gave it throttle and the wheels struggled to turn forward--the car stutters in place and doesn't move.

Anyone else had this problem, if so whats the remedy?

If the motor and speedo have the old bullet connectors you need to get some of the new ones that Castle has on all their new stuff and or the battery could be a problem.

Thanks Chewie and wyd,

Do either of you know whether or not if changing the connectors, will void my warranty?

Nevermind fellas, I just did a search and found a post by Joe with CC that says splicing wires WILL NOT void the warranty. For those with the same question see his response below:

If you splice a new switch into the wires that are attached to the controller you will not void the warranty. If you do any soldering on the ESC itself you DO void the warranty. If you'd like a new one put on send it in and we'll get you fixed up under warranty.

Re the Monster Max...there are sneak peek pics from the IHobby Show in Chicago. See here.
