Default Balancing a car

How important is it to keep a car balanced from left-to-right?

The ESC side is a good 60 grams heavier then the receiver & PT side.
Should I add some weight to balance it out?

In offroad not sure it matters a lot. I have never gone that extra mile to balance my offroad cars. The onroad guys almost have to. It is up to you but I doubt you will notice much of a difference.

Thanks Casper.

The only reason why I asked was the the new esc I'm putting in J's buggy is a bit heavier than the last one. Plus when you look at the back end of the car in relation to center mass -- more of it hangs to the left with the motor...maybe I should just balance it by putting the esc on the right instead -- I'll just have to extend my antenna cord, or create a new location for it on the left side...

A 1/4 oz should do the trick as well. ESC's have been getting bigger and recievers smaller. The balance is getting further off. I guess this might be a little more pronouced if you run lipo as well. (much lighter car). If you have a nimh brick in the middle of the car the side to side balance should not be a big deal. If you are running a lipo though it might be a little more noticable but again even if you do balance the car I am not sure you would notice in offroad.

We do use lipo -- and love them! -- so might, as you suggest, be more noticeable.
But then again, I’m probably just being too analytical.
I can’t help it, I just love to tinker with them.

Since he has the fun of racing them, I get the fun of making them as good as possible.

No one around here to stop you from tinkering. It would not hurt to balance the car. I am admitadly too lazy to work on detials like that but that is just me. One of the many reasons I won't run onroad!

If you want to take the time and balance out the car it can only help. My argument is if it is "needed" though.

Man, with stuff moving this fast I'd better have HB forward my next check. I ran the 5.5 at OCRC and it was stuuuuuppppiiiddd fast in my D4. I might pick up a 6.5 too.

See you all at Revelation this Sunday. I know the last round was a little over the top, but I think everyone should come out....it's gonna be fun.

Later
