BN FTW!

You SoCal folks have it nice, being all close and all! I wanna come play! its a bit of a "drive" for a weekend race!

Glad to hear the new equipment is working out.

For those running the new BL stuff, are you finding that you need a variety of motors? Im looking to purchase a setup, but the debate about an "all purpose" motor vs one for every class.

Im also looking at 2 vehicles sporting the BL system. a B4 and my BJ4WE. If i start racing, i know that the 19t class is popular and I don't really want to go stock, but im leaning toward mild mot for buggy. 4wd will need a good mod motor im guessing. Though my track is tight indoor. Will a hotter motor be better w/ more space and better options to open up the throttle? I think folks at my track are running everything accross the board.

Hows the heat? are they requiring cooling or have built in cooling?

With the brushed motor thinking, can you simply gear a mod motor to run slower and risk damaging the brushed motor. Can gearing potentially damage a BL motor?

Momo, as I mentioned in an email, we will be posting our
findings here on the forum when the team guys have
their systems and have something to report.

We just got the speed contols in the end of last week, the
5.5 and 6.5 motors just came in this week. Quite a few
team guys will be picking up their systems this weekend.

Scott and Jeremy have been doing most of the testing.
Other team guys have different cars and different motors
so they will be able to give lots of good advise as they get
their systems.

There has never been 1 motor to run in all classes. It won't
be any different with BL.

In the meantime, there is a Speed Passion forum in the On-Road
section here, and also in the off-road section. Also, you
can email Scott any questions.

Here is what I would run motor wise for brushless. But it also depends on what you like.

mod 2wd 7.5
mod truck 6.5
mod 4wd 6.5

Roar rules:

17.5 for stock
13.5 for superstock (10.5 is also allowed, but only for 08)

Of course in the mod classes you can motor up if thats what you like. I ran a 6.5 last weekend in my 2wd because I didnt have a 7.5 and it was a handful for an indoor track. A larger outdoor track and a better wheelman may have brought different results.

Thanks Billy. Jeremy is running a 5.5 in his 4wd. Seems to be
a good motor choice, ran it at Pegasus and the race at
Competition Hobbies. Scott is running the 10.5 in his truck,
won the Mod Open class with it at Pegasus last week-end!

The 5.5 is probably fine for an more open outdoor track. Indoor I think its a bit too much. You really cant open it all the way up. Of course Fez is a 4wd stud as well. That must be taken into account.

Momo- Wow, Lots of different questions. I am far from a BL expert but have been doing a lot of home work so I will do my best here.

I would discuss with your track if they plan on keeping a 19T class after this year. ROAR will not recognize that class after this year and will replace it with a 13.5 BL only "super stock" class. Right now it is pretty excepted that 10.5 BL is equivalent to the 19T brushed.

For mod 2wd. You should look at 7.5-6.5 for mod.
For 4wd 6.5-5.5
Truck 6.5-5.5

The 10.5's are good motors for mod as well if you are not used to runing hot motors. (12T or lower in the brushed world)

These brushless motors are all about gearing and speedo settings. They have a lot of bottom end torque so you can gear them high but need to watch out for temps.

You can undergear BL motors and they will run very effient and will not damage the motors. You can also just turn down the speed on the radio. Not the throttle high end point down to 60-70% and this will make the motor more controllable and you can even start playing with your throttle expo to take some bottom away to smoothen out the motor response.

The SP GT speedo has a lot of neat settings that will do some of this for you so you can make the motor feel more agressive or passive depending on your track conditions and how you like the motor to fell. We will be doing a lot of testing and learning over the next couple weeks and will continue sharing what info we learn here on this thread.

Thanks for you continued interest in Banzai motors.
