I'm not sure we'll be out anywhere this Saturday, B.James.

It's the last days before Christmas, and the weather isn't

looking too good. Might have to wait until the next Saturday!

How do you come up with that perfect setup?

Do you:
A) Start with the kit setup and go from there.
B) Use a Team driver's setup.
C) Combination of both

The reason i ask is because somebody told me not to use a factory driver's setup because you dont drive like a factory driver and it wont work out as well for you.

I'm getting a new XXX-CR and XXX T-CR and was wondering the best way to get a good setup by the 2008 racing season.

Any input is appreciated.

i have a b44 and i used tebos setup for i dont recall wat track but the dessciptions was bumpy clay med trackion. i followed all of his link positions and toe and camber, but i tried a coupe differnt things for my chocks till i got it right. so my sugestion is find a setup for the track you gonna drive on and go from there.

It depends on the car. Some kits have great kit setups. Others don't. I always build a "NEW" car with the kit setup. If the company did there job right the kit setup will usualy push a little. It makes the car easier to drive. I will then tweak from there. In the case of the AE cars the standard "team" setup is kind of what EVERYONE runs. For that car I would start with the Cavalieri setup and tweak from there.

As for tuning in the car to how you like it there are a couple good references you can use. The back of every Team Losi manual has a good list of what changes do. I have condensed that and some other information I got off the internet into a setup sheet that I feel is pretty useful when looking at what to change.

http://home.socal.rr.com/casper04/Setup_stuff.doc

I would print out a copy and use it as a reference when the car is not handling the way you like. This is not a perfect and fully complete guide but it has worked for us.

The other thing about tuning is to get a good base setup on the car and then tune with tires first. If you a convinced you have the right tires then tweak the setup from there. I would say tires are 80% or more of a good setup.

As far as setups go a this is going to be why I will miss so cal so much. That place was bumpy with med traction. The really nice thing was that conditions were consistant so you were able to see how changes affected the car. At most outdoor tracks that water, the amount of water in the track will affect the traction and make changes harder to notice as the traction level is always changing. If I got a setup that worked well at so cal it worked everywhere!

In most all cases I would start with the kit setup and tweak from there. If you have to make more then 4-5 changes and the car is not getting any better, go back to the kit setup and try and different direction.

e.g. If you tried fixing the car with shock changes, oil and springs and that did not work go back to the kit setup and try camber links or roll centers.
