Default Titanium screws to be available

Hi,

I am looking into bringing in Titanium screws to replace the existing fasteners on my cars.

Here's what I have found so far...

The screws that come with most RC car are cheap alloy steel
and fairly weak. Most head can be damaged easily esp that
of a button type socket head.

Titanium been 40% lighter than steel is a better choice as
screws for RC Cars. Stainless Steel is also good, but it is
fairly heavy. Aluminium screws are light but it is too weak.
A lot of people complain of the weak Team Associated Blue
screws.

The primary reason why people don't use Titanium screw is
the cost. Typical titanium screws at hobby shop cost $.80 to
$1 each. So a pack a 6 x M3x6 will cost $4.80. Average cost
of Stainless steel screws in hardware shop are around $0.11
to $0.30. But most hobby shop seems to sell at $0.4 to $0.5
each. DIY shops sell even more expensive.

I am planning to get titanium in larger quanity to reduce the
cost of the screws. Expected cost will be around $0.50 per
screw for most sizes except the bigger ones such as M3x30.

I would like to find out what is the most commonly used screw
size such that I could order them. I also like to poll for interests
in buying those screws.

Cool Titanium screws

Is not a matter of who you drive.. is how you arrive..

True, most of the screws from hobby shops are very much expensive than the hardware shop. If there are bulk purchases I would very like to be in the line up to replace those worn screws in my car.

Beng Hui, just let me know when you getting so can get together.

Cheers,

Tamiya uses only two types of screws with regards to threads. Go through the manual and you'll notice the M screws. these are machine screws (fine threads) for attaching to metal parts. Some are countersunk heads, some are round heads. Mostly 3mm (except for the Ball Diff).

The other type is the tapping screws, used for attaching to plastic parts. These have wider threads and pointed tips. Some are countersunk (mostly for under chassis), some are round head ( for other assembly purpose like top deck and bulkheads.

Hope this helps.

Here's a link if you want to know more ... got to "Other stuffs" and then read "Hardware 101" ... http://www.rc411.com/index2.html
