Hi all,
Just got a TT01D a mth ago n enjoying every moment of it.
But recently i find my stock damper getting softer n softer...it work great on some road surfaces but then again, the under chassis really get it rough if the road surface arent that appealing.
Been looking for more info on dumper set up but couldnt find much of it so i was hoping some kind souls can assist me on some qns;
  • For drifting, which system (Eg: Hard front & rear or Soft front & Hard rear etc etc) is more suitable?
  • Changing the damper oil to hard...which grade (The no. grading on the bottle)is more suitable as there r so many types on the market...its kinda confusing.
Thats all i can think of as i still a newbie drifter....any additional info is deeply appreciate.

Thks!!

Default Super Newbie

Hi all,

I've just recently got interested into RC cars and I've got quite a number of newbie questions that hopefully can help me to decide what and which to buy for me to start up.

GP or EP?
1) What are the pros and cons of a GP and EP car?

Types of brands
1) Is there any significant difference that a newbie should know between Tamiya, Hotbodies and Yokomo?
2) Are most of the after market parts compatible with these 2 brands or is there some bias towards a certain brand?
3) Which after market parts for these 2 brands are more costly?

Thanks in advance guys. Your help is very much appreciated!

hi... welcome to RC

Talk about EP car...

You need to get a kit maybe a TT01D which will consit of the ESC and motor
*ESC = Electric Speed Control
Cost about $240+-

Then you need a TX and RX for control
*TX = Transmitter
*RX = Receiver
Cost about $150+- for digital, $80+- for non-digital

You still need a battery, one pack is sure not enough.
3300mah battery = 15-20min runtime
One pack will easily cost you about $55+-

once got battery, you need a charger to charge which mean you need a charger.
Will cost you about $50+- for a normal wall charger 7.2v

okie... time to fix up everything and start running... where to run?
1. Queens Town (EP only)
2. yishun Track (EP & NITRO)
3. Taroda Track (EP only)
4. Puggol Field Walk (EP only by only friday night)
*is set up by a group of ppl to play there.

EP simple start off will cost you abt $450....

thing abt a EP car kit....
To get all battery charge up before run... imagine you have 6 battery and one charger.... charge till i siao also... but i still play coz is cleaner then nitro kit....

i will recomand you to go either Tamiya or HPI.... all my kit is tamiya.... parts support is very gd from stargek and BK = Queenstown and Winnie shop = Orchard Plaza.

Thanks a lot bro! U've been a great help! Btw is there any charger that can actually charge up maybe 2-3 packs of batteries at 1 go? Also are there any chargers that will automatically cut off the charging when the batteries are full? Last qn, is there any shops or lobang selling EK9 hatchback casings? Thanks!

hi ciferrion,

you can look into the EX15 pro. which cost about $200+- from winnie... this charger can charge up to 15 cell one time which mean you can charge two battery pack at a time with the same Capacity (Mah). you have to do ur own Y core for the ex15. this charger will peak when fully charge.

EK9 can pre-order from winnie... IS the ABC EK9, if you are looking for Honda EG6, you can look for me... haha...

Last qn for you, where do you stay? want consider playing in off rd nitro Buggy? haha...

Cheeers

Haha. I stay near the east. But I'm more interested in those touring cars, or those cars that can be seen on the road types. I wonder what u guys categorize these as. Btw, I realised that TT01 runs on shaft transmission (the rod in between the chassis) while the TA05 runs on belts (the straps with grooves.) Is there any particular difference for such 2 setups? Are there any pros and cons? Also, what do u guys mean by bashing and brushless? I would like to thank all bros. U guys have really been a great help to a newbie like me. Hopefully one day I can see and join u guys in action soon.

hi ciferrion,

between shaft and belt driven... got to wait for other pros to tell you more... what i know of is that shaft give you a better torque compare to belt.

If you are more to touring, i will recomand you to get the TA-05 Kit which will increase in your Buget. TA-05 Kit is abt $250+- Without ESC or even the TA-05 IFS-R kit abt $360+-. Thats mean you have to get a ESC in order to run.

Reasonable ESC:
Futaba 330c = $90+-
up to 13 turn motor.
*the lower the turn, the faster the motor

Low maintain cheap motor
* Tamiya Sport-tuned Motor
is 25 Turn Motor which cost you $28+-

Hope this can help....

Default MARS-EX1

I have a KO MARS-EX1 running with a KR297FZ. Been trying to look for more recievers but do not know which model is exact compatible without problem. Some say KR-301F can work. What other receiver can work with EX-1? Thanks for answering in advance.

Bro, try not to waste money on this remote receiver anymore... this remote is a super old model... think is abt 5-6yrs back if i am not wrong...

For cheap and compatible, you can try Hitec, but you got to use hitec crystal on hitec receiver and ko crystal on the Transmitter... as long as both cystal is the same frecy, can be use liao....

Look for Nick "Ammo" this is how he is using on his ko transmitter....

if i am not wrong, is abt $40 for the hitec receiver, Pls do bring down your transmitter to test before buy. Can get from rotor hobby.... they are always willing to let you test before buy.

PLS check and try before buy.... I haven test on it yet... but seen "ammo" doing to his kit before...

Cheers
