Default Agree!!

Hello Nipple / Viper / PHLIM....

Agree with you guys....we're all here to have a competition with some fun thrown in as well. Its nice enuf already that some people have taken the time and effort to organise some form of racing for all of us who have spent so much time and $$$ on our hobby. If not for these few guys, we'd all be running in some carpark lot somewhere on our own.

So what if there were not enuf tables, we use to sit on the grass or had to bring our own tables/chairs just a few years back when we were running off-road buggys! Even electricity was reserved for the lap counter and computer (we had to rent a generator for that!!).

Sharing tables isn't such a bad idea, race day is also time to socialise and meet new people anyway. The informal atmosphere is also a welcome change. I don't think we need special 'tones' to tell us when to start, a 'beep' from Terence is the same as a 'beep' from a computer....we're suppose to pay attention anyway.

Remember, this isn't some IFMAR Championship race meeting with Big Name sponsors, we're the only ones 'sponsoring' ourselves. Keep it simple and fun, and we can get more ppl interested and racing. 47 participants is not a great turnout, rope in more friends and get them started, we don't just need 20 drivers to make up a A or B main.....we need 70 novice, beginner drivers to make the C, D, E and F mains. These are the numbers that would allow race organisers to provide proper facilities etc.

Only 1 nit-picky comment. Gotta make the track a little stronger coz it kind off 'changes' during the day (even during mid-racing!).

All in all, the venue for the RCMC race is really nice, lets hope that the organisers can continue to use the place and hold races regularly throughout the year.

Default 1/8 rcmc race results

phlim, I was greatly impressed by the race details posted by you.

Therefore, I scrolled back to beginning of the month postings hoping to find similar results of 1/8 race which I missed (thanks to putting together the new v-one-r - whole night and sleeping the whole day) !!

To me, you guys are more professionals than amateurs and I greatly appreciate your good efforts.

If RCMC (or is there an "organising committee of some sort ?) can work out "volunteers" or something properly, then. . .perhaps the workload would be more evenly spread out and thus able to interface with the "public" better on result / race postings or even "newsletter" etc . .

PHLim and freinds of RCMC: Thank you for all you effort and I will look forward to race there again.

Tangfa: I don't see what is the problem for asking you to help a fellow racers, especially when GKC and Jimmy are somebody that you know and they have been very nice and helpful to you when you need help.

Hey Guys,

I sense the start of a flame war again.

All you guys raised very good points about having some good kinds souls to organise races so that people like us can race. I really understand and appreciate their effort to make racing as fun and as efficient as possible.

About what I posted previously, having stickers would not make my car faster. Having some manual beeps, does not make me drive like nor feel like Michael Schuwhatever... I just wanted to put something across in my previous post, but I did not know how to put it in words without starting a flame war. But I guess I have to post an analogy:

Last time there was only one char koay teoh stall in town. They sold at $2.50, very good ingredients with everything... not perfect, but almost. The stall was always stormed. One year later, stall management changed. They adjusted the price to $3.00 but without cockles and chai sin, as the local market did not sell cockles and chai sin anymore. It was still as DELICIOUS and besides, it was still the only char koay teoh stall in town. People still very much wanted to eat it, even though some customers thought they were shortchanged. So How? They still pay and eat lor.... That's my point.

I will still very much like to race (that is, if you can consider my style of driving, racing. ). I know that RCMC and crew did put a lot of effort to set up the race, but when you've seem the benchmark, you tend to remember it.

By the way I seem damn ENG hor. I am on M/C because Monico got into the A-main.

Regarding the drivers stand...maybe we can try the second floor of the basketball court..meaning the spectators area....it has got a nice view of the basketball court and we don't have to rent the drivers stand making things a lot simplier...we also don't have to fight for space on the drivers stand cos the spectators area covers the whole basketball court....this will make it something like the old maeine parade cc that we used to have...drivers stand being on the 2nd floor.....but not to forget we must also think of our fellow rc friends whom may not find it very convenient to climb the stairs.....so maybe we can just allow them to stand below if they don't wish to climb up.....nevertheless the spectators area has got cement railings to lean on and it solid...this will refrain us from the falling off unlike the flimsy and shaky prersent drivers stand.

Kelvin: I think some drivers may find it a little diffcult to drive from 2nd floor especially for those driver that are shorter than us.

Haha!! Yeah Joe! It would also be a bit like playing Pacman coz we'll be looking at the track almost 90 degrees from the top!

Actually, everyone can have a choice of where they would like to stand. Just like at the old Marine Parade CC where some ppl would rather stay on the ground than go to the 2nd floor.

If you wanna go to the 2nd floor, no problem rite?? Then we won't have the problem of the overcrowded drivers' stand. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Default Hello and how are you doing today?

First some good news that I can share:

1. With your continued support and participation, the Marine Parade RCMC have decided to carry on the series. The 1/10 ISTC Electric Car Race will be held every last Sunday of the month - Nipple: are you game for it? Frankly we haven't get the okay from Wui Kiat to continue as Race Director , he was not able to make it at yesterday night's committee meeting.

2. Marine Parade RCMC will continue to extend the "Join RCMC and get the next 3 consecutive 1/10 ISTC Electric Car Race free" till the end of 2002. Yes, we need you as members, only with enough membership can we get more things done. The committee also suggested having a permanent area to run electric cars. The proposed area is the smallish area above the basketball court where we store our pipes and stuff. But then again, we can only have this if we have enough membership. Only 7 members out of a 48 participant turnout at the 27th Jan 2002 race is IMHO pathetic.

I was out of action yesterday, so that's why you see no replies here. So, let's see now ...

Nipple: Keep up the great job and don't get discourage by the unhumane comments. I am sure they don't really mean it, but during stressed out times, gibberish is known to be uttered by some of our folks. I did operate races before, and I used to be very strict and no jokes - that's why I am no longer wanted, I guess. Like you said, we could save a lot of time with cooperation and understanding from everyone - well it is always easier said than done.

viper1: Cool off man ... As for the sticker, well I was just thinking off my head for an excuse for a missssssing sticker.

raygun: Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, we will be trying to get more bricks to sit the corners. During the race, it is a practice that the mechanic of the driver who bash a corner off, fix it back. It isn't a practice yet, but that's what we hope to see. So unless the track was badly blocked, you would have notice that we didn't set it back for you.

stik: Tai Seng can lease the place, but Marine Parade RCMC won't run it. Whatever event Marine Parade RCMC runs, it got to be an open race with minimal or no brand attachments. So unless Tai Seng opens up their Tamiya Series, just like the Kawada series, Marine Parade RCMC cannot sanction it. But then again, like I said, Tai Seng can lease the place.

Prawntoe: No offense taken. It is always been my practice to NOT overpromise but try to overdeliver. The organizing committee is Wui Kiat (Race Director), Sunny Hee and me. Together we got some good friends of Wui Kiat & Sunny to come along and help us lay the track and set up the driver stand. Of course, not forgetting Nipple who runs the race. You got a good point about volunteers - let me put this out to all who are reading - we need volunteers, if we can get 4 volunteers we can actually lay the track on every Saturday afternoon and run till 10pm. So why 4, for Saturday outings, we probably won't erect the driver stand and get out the tables and chairs, so all we need is to lay the track and keep the track. It can be done with 4 volunteers. Any takers? sent me a email. and thanks in advance.

JoeHwee: Thanks for your kind comments. Eh... why it seems that everyone is picking on Tangfa? He was a great help, for the last 2 races he was there on Saturday night to help us set up.

Kenneth Tan: Point taken and thanks for the feedback, without which we won't know what really works.

Kelvin Khng: Joehwee has a point there some, or at least I know of one (Peter's son) won't make it over the railing. We will have a wider driver stand at the next race, just that we need to figure out how to get the 2 extra pieces of 2 inch square wood to brace the additional section. Anyone who has access to a pickup can help us get 2 pieces of 2 inch square wood pieces?

Nipple: Yes, that's the spirit, use the Smilies more often:

raygun: Nope, you are not suppose to stand any where and race, it is a requirement that you stand on the driver stand required - see I told you I was strict and unpopular. Of course we give exceptions to those who needs it.

I am thinking of sending off a email to Eric Chow to see if he can bring his gang down for our CNY race on the 24th February - any comments here? Of course I need your support and participation, it would be pathetic if they come down and we get a poor turnout ourselves. Anyone of you are familiar with the RC'ers in Malaysia? I'll probably pop over to their forum and stick up a notice it all goes well.

Default Eric Chow

Not a problem, if they have their own event, we can always invite them for the March one, now that we are going to make this a monthly affair.

If there is sufficient interest, we can get a tour company to ferry us up there and run in their event. We got to stratch each others back. If we want them to come down, we must be prepared sometime to go up too. Anyone interested in forming group to go up north for a race?

Hey phlim,

Do you mean that the race at Marine Parade CC is going to be continued till the end of 2002? WHat benefits does a member have?

Default Race Calendar & Benefits for members

Kenneth Tan: Yes, the plan is to run it on every last Sunday of every month till 29 December 2002. Of course, by then we will put out our plans for 2003, like we usually do for the other 2 event types. However, like I said before, there are a couple of unconfirmed areas, one is that we haven't got an official okay from Wui Kiat to continue to be Race Director, next is if Nipple can confirm to operate the races for us and finally we need volunteers to help with track setup and keeping the track after the race.

Thanks for reminding me about listing benefits of members. I do agree that it is not much at the moment, but it is usually a chicken and egg situation . At the moment our meagre benefits for member who support us with their membership are :
a. You can use the East Coast Track everyday from 9am till 6pm.
b. We produce a periodic newsletter - usually quarterly.
c. For the 1/10 events you pay less to participate. We are planning to charge members $15 for the upcoming 1/10 ISTC Electric races.
d. Various other local race organizers have voice their support for Marine Parade RCMC members and will also give a race fee discount (amount is decided by the individual race organizer). I have confirmed okays from Toykar and Hobbylink events on this. So, you can ask them if you are joining their events. You will have to produce your valid membership card for validation.

With more of you joining us, we can look at the possibility of setting up a tour bus to bring us up to KL for a race. Maybe a get together makan or Karaoke if there is enough interest. You see, whatever else we want, we need the membership in order to officially inform you and get your feedback.

The communication channel here is purely personal and unofficial, I can't table your interest at the committee and build a strong case, when I don't have the membership to show. I trust that you understand.

phlim:

just my personal views regarding RCMC membership:

if i play 1/8 gas, i can understand the entrance fee of $120 as it will help to pay for maintenance of the PA track.

however if i only play electric cars and am pretty sure i will not use the PA track for my electric car (location too far, inconvenient and besides, it's too big a track for electric), shouldn't i pay less for membership? i have to admit i'm one of those unwilling to pay the $120 fee.

perhaps RCMC can have a membership for electric racers only?
the subscription can therefore be like getting channels for SCV: pay for what you need. eg:

$120: membership for all RCMC races
$40: membership for RCMC electric races only

maybe something like that will help boost membership.
hope the RCMC can consider.
