Hey guys... anyone wanna try a 1/8 ELECTRIC buggy?? hahahah...

dirtdynamics 05-13-2006 07:26 AM

actually there was a guy who built one quite some time ago in an RC mag
Used a hyper 7 also i think.
that was when brushless 1st catched on and 4wd ep was just staring with the original bj4...
so you know that was quite some time back...
I may have the mag somwhere at home

Guess you need really powerful torque to drive the drivetrains?

dunno if its that good an idea

apparently, if you read those forums where people have converted 1/8th buggies to EP, the torque of the motors will eat pinions and spurs, so be ready to keep changing these items. This is probably due to the fact that the motor setups do not allow the transmission to slip, like clutches in GP buggies.
so any impact or acceleration will wear the gears.
also, the total running weight of a 1/8th buggy with 1 BL motor and 2 7.2v battery packs is much higher then a GP buggy. although power-wise, it can be comparable or faster (just means your pinions and spur goes faster).
seriously, dunt bother, unless you're realllllly bored or have lotsa moola.
the BL motor is equivalent to a very high end .21 buggy engine... prolly around SGD 500 to 600
then add in a high amp ESC, around another 300 to 400.
you can see why there is no point at all.
dunt let me stop you though
