what kind? is it the rear-exhaust type, or the side exhaust type? I have a rear exhaust one made by HPI for a small block engine.

Rear exhaust. Something like this one:

This will be used on rear exhaust .21 - .28 engines on a Hudy break in bench. My offroad pipes have the "U" shaped manifolds that bring the exhaust back up next to the motor. This obviously works fine with the standard clutch/flywheel assembly, but won't work when attaching the propeller on the motor for break-in purposes.

Ahh, I see what you mean and need, unfortunately I only have a small one for .12-.18 engines, not BB engines. Sorry.

If you have an old U shape manifold, just cut it into 2 pieces and mount the exhaust with a rubber connection tube.

That would be a viable option. However I only have the one offroad "U" shaped manifold for the buggy (no spares).

Can anyone confirm if the flange side of this manifold is the same size as the .21 engines we use in 1/8th scale:

This is a cheap alternative to your suggestion above if it will fit on my exhaust port of my .21 engine.

Yes, that was my original plan. Saves all of this research and guessing and time.

Unfortunately, I am running the Werks 2057 with an offroad manifold. Although Werks offers his pipes with an onroad manifold, he does not sell the onroad manifold separately.

So here I am now.

But at $30 - $40, I'd rather take a shot at something a little cheaper like this:

Come to think of it, I was initially hoping to find one of you onroad nitro guys that may have one in their box doing nothing that you'd want to sell for a few bucks.

I am looking forward to NOT having to break in my next motor in my racing chassis, driving it up and down my street in my neighborhood (no fun at all). Yet, buying a tool that will get used MAYBE twice a year - I can think an many other useful places to spend my money.

Although I talked myself out of simply building something (vs. buying the Hudy Break In Bench), I did find one used to defer some of the cost.

And here I am now looking for the final piece to this puzzle.
