Looks like the Texas Challenge will be on August 6, 7, 8. I wonder when the heck they're gonna do the NY Challenge if at all.

I know this have been told many times.
Why people are saying R40 is too heavy? The spec of weight w/engine & electronics is about 1,750g. I think ROAR and IFMAR limit is 1700g. Only 50g over. The 2004 kit is 100g lighter and somepeople are still saying too heavy? I don't understand.

Roar legal weight is (with body) 1725 gram (Did they just changed from 1730 to 1725 recently...?) or more....now...R40 stock is weight about 1900 gram with body (with stock R40 parts) ...do not trust TOWER listing, they have no idea what they are saying 80% of the time.....
On the other hand, car like NTC3 are like 1730 with body, and that is with a little light weight options, and I am sure my NTC3 is 1730 gram with body and actually has only a lightweight clutch and no other light weight stuff...Right now, I have the 9550 servo (that is not weighted), and if I want to shave more weight, I can use (5) AAA batteries to save more weight....then my NTC3 will be below 1700gram with body.
R40 is not extremely heavy, but we were comparing to the other HIGH END cars, and R40 is the heaviest....
R40 2004 spec does improved a lot, but not without like $150 of options added....(well, so does MTX3 Pro Spec and S710....they were like fully loaded at the beginning....)
I just went downstair and weight my R40 with electronical, engine, pipe, 2 regular servos, 2/3a receiver packs........without body, it is already 1776 grams...........and I used all alum screws, and I have both lightweight shafts and both carbon fiber shock towers............add a body, my car will be easily over 1850 gram in race weight.....easy 100 gram over legal limit.
P.S....I believed racer like AMG and Fastharry already managed to get the R40 to 1730 gram with the body.....so it is do-able, just you have to know where and what to add or remove on the R40.

I see, I might get 2004 kit. Little heavier might be good, if somebody bump me. He might flew away.

If you have access for the 2004 spec....get it. well worth the money over the stock R40 and do the $180 plus options upgrade.
Think again, s710 and mtx-3 prospec both come with 4mm chassis. and 2004 kit only 3mm. And they are still lighter. What makes r40 heavier? Which parts cause the weight?

I actually like to know how I could spend USD 150 on the 710 to make it race worthy.

Hello USA
There is no HPI R40 forum in France thus I address oneself directly to you.
Excuse me for my approximate English, i'm french
This small word to explain you my problem and to ask solutions:
My R40 makes a weight of 2 kg with the body (Volvo S60 coming from Serpent).
I'have all titanium shafts and carbon supports of shock absorbers.
Which types of modifications or options to buy to reduce the weight of this car
Thanks for your answer and you can to also send me photographs by email for more explanations ([email protected]).
