Cool Battery Connectors for Lipo
Apologies if this thread is similar to other - but I did a quick search and could not find answers...

What battery connector should I use for buggies - Team Associated B4.1

I currently use XT-60's but people have said that they are not correct and should be used for planes..

What should I use Dean T's, EC3's or others..

Is there a standard for different vehicle, drones, planes boats etc??

Take you pick. EC3, EC5, deans, Traxxas, XT-60. I’ve got vehicles using all of these. And few more. Few of mine use bullet plug directly into battery. It’s more of a personal choice. Some do hold better in rough driving.

you can use any connector you want as long as it meets the esc needs I have been using xt90 for several years ..

Since Horizon Hobby owns half of the RC companies out there and they use EC5's, I've switched to using EC5's for my bashers/crawlers. For race kits, I go direct into the battery.

Stick with the xt60 plug you have. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a great plug, and won't come unplugged bouncing around inside of a buggy.

The XT plugs are awesome plugs. I got rid of all my Dean's and went to them.

I also want to ditch all of my Deans plugs and go with xt60 or xt90 plugs. Are XT plugs easy to solder? I only Run 2s lipo on my vehicles that I drive. What would you recommend, XT 60 or 90?

After switching from Deans/EC5 to XT60 connectors, I thought to myself...I should have done it years ago. They are the only plugs I'll use from now on. If the LiPo has inboard tubes, I use low profile bullets of course.

what didn't you like about the ec5 connectors? How do they compare to the XT type connectors? What XT connector is the best to use for 2s lipo?

Is it a good idea to cut the connectors off of batteries and solder on new ones? Are there any hazards to this?

No not really unless you are really bad at soldering. Just cut one at a time as to not short them out. And make sure you use good solder and have a decent soldering iron 40w or greater. Cold joints are usually created by cheap irons

I work at a hobbyshop so I've soldered on almost every connector there is and I have to say the XT series connectors are much much easier to solder than the EC series.

I’d agree with that also. Some ec5 connectors I’ve had a hard time with locking them into the plastic piece. Also putting the right amount of solder into metal piece it can sometimes come over the side and make a glob and then will be even harder to stick in plastic piece.
I prefer xt60 xt90 they lock together good. Easy to solder. They don’t come apart when driving at all.

They (EC5) are a pain when you want to reuse them. Too many extra steps to disassemble/reassemble.
For 2S I use XT60.
