Hello gents.

Just a quick question here.

Is there a certain tool or technique on hoe to remove these rings?

They seem to be well embedded once installed. It's not like regular e-clips.

If there are holes toward the tips of the c clips, you can use ring plier. If not, I guess same as e clips.

For clips like that I use a pair of thin nose needle nose pliers and have them around the shaft so one side makes contact with the tips of the c-clip annd the other side is on the face of the clip, so when you apply pressure you can squeeze the clip off, so to speak. Most times the clip will be partially off then I use a small flat bladed screw driver to get the clip the rest of the way off. Best to but a towel over when doing this as the clips tend to shoot of some times.

I'll give it a try. I'll put the whole assembly inside a gallon size freezer bag when doing the procedure. I also ordered extra clips - just in case.

That's exactly how I do those except sometimes you find one that wont come off far enough to get a blade in there (bad design IMO). In that case you have to kind of hold the piece and a screwdriver in one hand and a screwdriver in the other and try to shove both ends off at the same time.

I usually use two separate pieces, the trusty needlenose and an allen driver. Hold the needlenose on the shaft, against one tip of the clip, and push off on the other tip with the driver until it gets out of the groove and the tips are against the pin/shaft. Usually gets it started enough to get my needle nose to grip the other side to pull off and it won't go flying that way.

Can these crescent rings can be replaced with e-clips?

I sometimes use another one and push on the opposite side until i can get a small jewelers style flat-blade to finish taking it off.

I think that an e-clip tool will work. I'll give it a try later.

Tamiya have supplied a tool with kits in the past - not much more than a pressed steel plate with a couple of cutouts in it - this can help to push the open end of the clip away from the shaft. It will then either pop off, or can be hooked away.

Alternatively, a flat screwdriver or some other thin, flat edge will do the trick.

I doubt it can be replaced with an e-clip, there probably won't be the clearance. Those clips will be used on the expectation that you will rarely have to disassemble it.

Success!

I put the whole assembly inside a freezer gallon bag, pried the crescent ring on both sides with two flat head precision screw drivers and it came off. I didn't lose the ring because it was inside the bag.

There are dedicated tool for that, but I'm used to use socket wrench tool to remove e-clips, so I suppose that it should work also for these clips...

Try an open end wrench the same size as the shaft, 4mm, 5mm etc then push the clip off. Into your bag, rag or?
