Surpass V4S Motors
#271
Based on those current draw numbers, I'd back off the timing a bit. 33* (and the resulting free-spinning current draw) sounds awfully high for a 6.5T motor.
AmiSMB, did you take timing reading on all of those motors?

Hmm, seems, that the stock motors are better than the modified. I exchanged all my SkyRc Ares Pro competition 17.5 and 13.5 to Surpass V4s and they have all better values @6.0A than the SkyRc.

Is that how it was set when you ran it? I've only used the 17.5 & 13.5 and I find them to have what I perceive to be a very tight air-gap. The magnetic cogging is stronger/heavier than any motor I've ever had. This explains why I'm not seeing Kv #'s as high as other motors I have that are slower when in the car.
If you haven't tried your motor with the lower tiiming setting, try it geared up a tooth or two from where your Sky RC motor was, see if it'll pull more gear.

Didn`t try the 19° timing until now.
Next race day i will try the 19° timing higher gearing setup

It has taken me a longer than I thought to build due family health issues but the dyno is almost ready
Parts to be able to run the motor only are on the way . Too.
The roller is a massive 3430 grams so it is a real test. I like the mini pro but the flywheel is to light in my opinion

It looks like I might be needing a new ESC now, one of mine has an intermittent fault. I see that Surpass make a bunch of different ones - what are their racing ones actually called? And anyone know where I could source one in New Zealand?

I did not take a timing reading as my motor checker is an older Team Powers model which does not have that function

@ AmiSMB
i can confirm your Surpass 6.5T V4 readings.
My Readings with the Sky RC Motor Analyser:
Surpass V4S 6.5T 33° Factory Timing 6,7A@ 7,7V 5303KV
Sky RC 6.5T Ares pro competition the old sliver one 19° Factory Timing 4,0A@ 7,9V 5575KV
Set the Sky RC to 33° Timing 5,8A@ 7,8V 6000KV
I dident like the Surpass power Curve compared to the Sky RC.
In the lower and middle RMP range the Surpass has much less power then the Sky RC.
In the upper RPM Range the Surpass feelt very punchy.
The Sky RC has a much linearer power curve ( with Factory Timing dident try the 33° timing)
I have drove both motos in 2WD on Carpet with same FDR. (9,65)
